    A good lawsuit maybe? :)

Well, from individual point of view, if we need to pick some positive out of it then... we got sometime to relax and talk to employees of other team on the floor! :)

What is this unsaved work you speak of? I hit Alt+F+S so often that I even do it in Query Analyzer before exiting a query screen (Although in this case I usually don't want to save).

Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. I also do Android Programming as I find it a refreshing break from the MS. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost

Well, very few does this. I surely not. I forgot to mention the real problem, all the servers and VPC's got shutdown! Hope you can understand how much that can affect work.

We had a power cut in office today... UPS too trips down and we lost our unsaved work! It took the maintenance guys an hour to bring back the network up and running again.

What about interruptions like Servers and VPC shutting down abruptly? Builds and analysis that take 3-4 hours at a stretch?

An interrupted build isn't going to kill any unsaved work. At worst, the build is going to start from the beginning. But I'd agree that such a total power failure can be frustrating.

Losing 3 hours of work that is automated is nothing compared to losing 3 hours of unsaved programming work.

Agreed. But what about if I say, roughly around 3pm we get a fresh build daily to work on? Didn't that interrupted the whole part? It takes 2-3 hours to complete... what now?

Dependant work on the automated work does matter.

Not sure, of what kind of backup you are talking of here. Personally, I keep backups of my work and use it as and when required.

At my last company, there was a server failure during a backup. Unfortunately, the current backup completely obliterates the previous backup, so they were left with no backup. That was a fun one to recover from.

:). While working on some code piece, I try to. But, not too often while documentation or so. As a team though, every individual is different and has own way of working. Then the servers and virtual machines that gets shutdown abruptly creates issues next time we try to logon (espacially VPC's). Lots of working hours wasted.

I've had more than one UPS stop working as such without any warning whatsoever until the power went down and so did the UPS.
