I came across NovaDreamer[^] (don't remember how  ). This made me read more about the concept of lucid dreams (basically you are dreaming with full awareness that your are in a dream): More FAQ[^]. From the article: Often, the first thing that attracts people to lucid dreaming is the potential for wild adventure and fantasy fulfillment. .... A large part of the extraordinary pleasure of lucid dreaming comes from the exhilarating feeling of utter freedom that accompanies the realization that you are in a dream and there will be no social or physical consequences of your actions. After watching Inception (movie), it all sure sounds very interesting.

I very rarely remember my dream; certainly they are gone by the time I have finished the first cup of coffee. The only time it was different was when I was giving up smoking: the patches meant that I didn't seem to fall fully asleep, and could remember them in great and vivid detail. I have no idea whether the detail, lucidity or even themes were a feature of the patches/depth-of-sleep but they surprised me at the time. I can still clearly remember dreaming (in first person perspective) through an entire episode of Star Trek TNG. I am glad to report it wasn't one with Wesley Crusher in, so I made no attempt to take control and throttle the little sh@t...

Have you never had a lucid dream ? I don't have them often, but yes, they rock. The only fear I have is, what if I think I am lucid dreaming, but it turns out I was awake ? :P

Oh come on... Sure, Wesley Crusher was a bit annoying, but Wil Wheaton (The guy who played him) is a Slashdot geek, and that makes him cool in my book.

Ask yourself if you're awake or dreaming every time you enter a room and every time you look at your hands. Once the habit is established, it'll be persisted in your dreams :)

The actor can be cool, but the character can still be an annoying little waste of atmosphere... (The reverse can also be true)

I've had a couple of lucid dreams, the first one I had was before I knew what lucid dreams were, my reaction to being aware I was dreaming was "WTF" You can also hear and feel things, I could hear my alarm clock going off whilst I was dreaming

Fair enough :) Definitely wouldn't put Crusher Jr. on my top ten list... Picard and LaForge were my favorites. Also Q, but he's not in that many episodes...

I would but I'd be afraid the Neo-Socialist government would attempt to steal my soul and take away my liberty. Can you offer any suggestions to protect myself whilst on an LSD trip against these jack booted thugs?

Then you would go to prison and if you were ever let out, you wouldn't be allowed to be 1000 feet of a school and would have to report to the authorities once a week.

Only to end up in a nightmare where you are locked in a padded room in a straight jacket, which is where a tendency such as the one you suggest might eventually land you. ;P

Unless you are also sleep walking. Never experienced a lucid dream myself. They sound neat though.
