Tim, you know you're messing up when people attack your response to CSS. If the US builds crappy stuff for a high price, I will not buy it. If they build as-good or better quality for the same or less price, I will. I consider it an attack on our economy to subsidize crap.

Oddly enough Nissan, Honda and others are made in the UK - it looks like Saab are next! In part because we have one of the best car parts manufacturing industries in Europe. For all the politicians putting manufacturing down we're doing better.

Good for the UK. I wish we'd get off our service sector butt. Except I happen to be sitting on mine.

We came down to Earth with a thump about 20 years ago and it's taken a long time for these things to take hold. People still moan about the old industries such as ship building going and ignore the new ones.

Simply because a company builds a plant in your backyard doesn't make them "domestic". Of course, I'm guessing you gave them a better deal than our outsourcers get.

            Manufacturing isn't the "service sector".

Right, and we doing service sector. We need internal manufacturing capability.

Is this the sound of sour grapes? People have worked damned hard - manangment, workers, local government and local parts manufacturers to win business over other countries so congratulations to them. For example, there are one or two specialsit manufacturers who are moving from other European countries to the UK because there is such a good environment to work with. In the car/vehicle industry paradoxiacally not having to transport parts long distances affects costs and efficicency.

No, they've built plants here, too. Mostly because their own labor priced itself out of the picture along with the cost of transporting cars across an ocean, two oceans in your case. But they're still not domestic companies.
