    their element symbols are not based on their English names - i think they're all from the Latin names, but not 100% sure.

            Jawohl Mein Herr! Well done. Yes, the Symbol does not start with the same letter as the name. Tungsten, for example, was Wolfram.

                              Nope, not quite. Tungsten was identified independently in two separate minerals at about the same time: Tungstenite and Wolframite.
