That's about 10M you will never need in your life (unless you amke 10mx10m posters). And how much for that, if I may ask ? 1000€ ? 1200€ ?

Actually, sometimes I do enlarge my photo's... sometimes. But since you have higher detail in a picture, it is easier to cut out a part you don't need without losing too much detail, logically seen.

18M pixels ~= 4264x4264 therefore 4.264 pixels per mm inverse = 0.236 mm per pixel

just thinking of an example of being far away where you can't get closer. I guess birds on the other side of a river. People in a hot air balloon etc would be just as hard to get closer to.

Was just kidding. Of course it can be useful to be able to zoom. Actually, for birds or sports in an arena, I'd recommend the tele (under the assumption that you already know the detail you want to snap at the moment you are doing it).

My new camera arrived: Canon EOS 7D. I just love it. I'm still reading through the 250 page manual, but compared to my powershot Pro it is an amazing piece of hardware. It has 18 MPixels (vs the not so bad 8 MPixel of my powershot - at the time), can record Full HD and has a very wide range of options that are still easily set, once you get the hang of it. I'm pretty impressed with the noise reduction on higher ISO levels (again, compared to my old powershot). All the buttons are in the right place. one option I like very much is the one shot jpeg/raw option. Normally I set the camera to full quality jpg format, but if I see a very nice scenery eg, I could, with one press of the button, take the shot and save it to both formats. Nice touch. There's still so much to discover on this thing, but I like it. :-D

If you have have any of the previous Canon high-end point and shoots most of the functions will be immediately familiar. However, one really cool one is the or Depth of Field preview button, small round button on the left of the camera front near the lens. Pretty cool. Also, don't forget to enable the h1 and h2 ISO levels, pretty sick.

Set to 12800 which I believe is the max. Took a test shot and as mentioned in original post, the noise reduction is beyond decent on this one :-)

I honestly don't know why people buy any other brand of camera. I've never, ever, heard a Canon owner say they were dissatisfied with their camera.
