Maybe I just missed it, but I just discovered today that there is a 3D option on the Google Maps Street View - so get your red and blue glasses out of the TV Times (that is where everyone else keeps them, isn't it?) for immersive orienteering.

Is it really a type of 3D that requires glasses, or is it just a perspective map? I know Google Earth can do perspective maps, but I didn't know Google Street View did.

Well, not having my radio times at work, I can only assume, but it certainly has that red/blue tinge to it...

It's kind of new, but basically a reprocessing of old data. The original street-view data is collected by a camera collecting video as a vehicle drives it around. Every n'th frame is collected as a still image, and if there is ever a major problem they can jump back or forth a frame and no one will know. But take any two adjacent video frames at a constant speed? stereoscopic images! :-D
