I don't know, but I heard their natural habitat is An Office, which might explain why I don't have one.

Just curious to know how many of us are conservative about using printing papers ? I noticed in last one year I hardly use one pack of printer paper.I try to avoid printing paper as much as I can. I even reuse the margin of printed paper to do some note taking or calculation to make sure I don't waste it. Whenever I print something I feel guilt of cutting down more trees. Am I being too conservative to use paper ?

I avoid printing everything that can be saved digitally. Normally, I only print forms/contracts and stuff that must have a hard copy. Besides, I only purchase recycled paper.

The same banks who are GREEN because they offer e-statements (as opposed to 2 sheets a month) have absolutely no qualms about sending unsolicited crap (flyers, credit checks, loan offers, stupid agreement changes etc.) in the post. The paper savings from going the e-statement route is probably less than 10%! :sigh:

How true! My bank sends me something that almost seems a newspaper in size and number of pages. It invariably ends up in the recycling bin, but all the resources spent to make and deliver it are totally wasted.

You should use more. Some trees are grown specifically for processing into paper. If nobody uses paper, their very existence will have been in vain. They will become depressed and as a result will become more susceptible to diseases. Living so close to each other, as they do, these diseases will spread extremely rapidly, decimating entire forests. All because you were too frugal in your use of paper. You should be ashamed of yourself! :-D

An excellent point, Henry, which exactly mirrors my argument in favor of consuming vast quantities of bacon and pork ribs. Several breeds of swine exist solely for the purpose of feeding the habits of people who share my love of pork. In fact, many of these specialty breeds have been bred to enjoy being clubbed between the ears, causing them a feeling of great relief and fulfillment similar to a human orgasm. I've done a lot of research into the method used to accomplish this, and while it's a closely held trade secret, I can tell you that it involves neurolinguistic programming techniques and a man holding a baseball bat while whispering "nice piggy" at the crucial moment in breeding. Without me and others of similar tastes, millions of these poor beasts would live out their lives feeling unfulfilled and unloved, and eventually the entire population would die off, primarily because of a lack of interest in breeding, "... it just isn't what it used to be." I couldn't bear to have that on my conscience. :((

I go through a ream or two a day at work, perhaps a quarter of that at home. Reading and understanding 1000 page technical documents on a computer screen is something I find impossible to do. Of course I print all emails, in case I forget where I left them in my inbox. And I print all the spam I get before I delete it, just in case I might one day need Viagra or a Russian bride. Where I really score highly is in printing my own designs - D and E size prints of electrical substation construction drawings, transmission line plans and profiles, topographical maps, grading plans, sewer lift station drawings, water line and well details, control building plans and control system electrical and mechanical designs - why, one good sized project can level a smallish deciduous forest! Environmental, biological, and cultural site assessments - all required by Federal law - consume even more, and copies must be distributed to about 30 different offices (with multiple copies). Have you ever seen an Environmental Assessment Report (the baby brother of the Environmental Impact Statement)? Those can easily reach a few hundred pages for a simple project. Then there are the required paper reports for every water sample, taken weekly from dozens of sites, that have to be sent to the US EPA and AZ Dept of Environmental Quality. Can't forget those... By the time I retire I fully expect to completely denude the state of Maine and turn it into a pristine grassland. So go ahead and print to your heart's desire; it won't be noticed. I might even leave you a tree or two in Maine.

JOKE PART Well, definitely you are: I have a script that automatically prints all the e-mails that I receive. In that way I have our secretaries fully employed on organizing papers and putting coloured post-its to them. Also, some other secretaries are always making copies of ALL the documents and in that way I have replaced the expensive backup solutions out there: I have seen that a scanner armed with OCR can do it wonderfully... You should see the secretaries looking for the right post-it note when they have to recover one document... Ah... the joy of paper... SERIOUS PART I even don't have drawers in my office... so I don't use paper... only when we print some product manuals...

I don't even have a printer, I occasionally print stuff to PDF though. It's very rare that I ever need to print anything outside of work, maybe once every 3 years or so? On those occasions I use someone elses.
