I remember VAX's with massive CDC disk drives - big honking removable disk packs - maybe 15~18" in diameter - with a mind-bending storage capacity of 10 MB.

This has no drives at all. I may have to boot it from one of my AlphaServers... I haven't done that since I had VMS System Manager training around 1994. This may be a bigger project than I had planned. Not bored!

Whoo hoo!! My MicroVAX 3100 just arrived! :cool: A label says it was manufactured in "FEB 90". Now I have to make sure it works and get some disks for it. And an adapter to connect it to the network... And install VMS...
Damn that's a blast from the past. Spent a good portion of my early career working on DEC machines. You get it for pleasure or biz?

I think I remember when those were "the new hot"…or was it a VAXstation 3100…probably… Wow…what VMS are you sticking on it?

7.3…I think the last one I used (before transitioning to Windows…95) was 5.5…or something like that. I'm guessing my long-forgotten VMS skills would still be applicable...

I was using 6.2 when Win95 was new. My last job involving OpenVMS was using 7.2

Dang, I wish I'd kept my µVAX-II. I used to sit on it while playing guitar. It was the perfect height - and boy could it support a ton! Although I think my iPod Nano probably has more power. :) /ravi
