All I know of is the album Voyager by Mike Oldfield, although it's not 100% Irish as there's some Scottish songs in there too.

The only Mike Oldfield I know is English, not Irish or Scottish; his Tubular Bells album was a big hit when I was a student. :)

He is English, but that particular album is decidedly more Celtic.

Hi all, What I'm looking for is some good instrumental Irish music, somewhat in the vein of either classical compositions and/or more modern renditions, such as the instrumental songs by the Corrs. Thanks! Marc

Here are a couple of links: Altan (band)[^] Celtic Fiddle Festival - Melodie[^] If you google 'traditional irish instrumental' you'll be spoiled for choice. If all else fails, anything by Enya. :-D

I think one of the best band is still "The Chieftains". other than that, my references are quite limited.

http://www.last.fm/user/vpunathambekar[^] LOTS of music from the Celtic lands, although not all of it is instrumental. David Arkenstone is American, but Spirit of Ireland, as you can guess, is highly inspired by the Emerald Isle. Secret Garden is half-Irish, half-Norwegian. The Corrs - check out Paddy McCarthy! Other music from the Celtic lands: Runrig - eclectic Celtic Rock. Capercaillie Enya Dougie MacLean Celtic Woman The Corrs Cara Dillon is the opposite of what you're looking for, but she has such a beautiful voice! Clannad Moya Brennan Other mostly-European instrumental music: Amethystium Enigma Vangelis Ryan Farish Era What are your favourites, Marc?

Cheers, विक्रम (Got my troika of CCCs!) After all is said and done, much is said and little is done.

Do Celtic Woman do instrumentals? I thought they were essentially a vocal group. Worth checking out Patrick Street, Boys of the Lough and Iona (the band, not the Iona community worship group -- stuff like this) too.

Afro Celt sound system. Not completely traditional, but i'm fairly sure they have some instrumentals (it's been a while since i listened to them)

Well, here's a varied list, starting with 2 of my favorite classical pieces: Saint-Saens, Organ Symphony #3. The Eugene Ormandy version by Telarc. Schubert, Death and the Maiden, The Guarneri String Quartet version Other stuff, no order: Chris Rea Dire Straits Eurythmics Genesis Peter Gabriel Jethro Tull Tangerine Dream Vangelis Corrs selections of Sting, The Fixx, U2, Rush, etc. Certainly some of tracks are pretty bad, others are great Ancient stuff: The Doors Kraftwerk Talking Heads etc. I enjoy jazz but have no clue as to what/who I actually like, can't stand rap or hip-hop, and stay away from most heavy metal. Thank you for your list! I will definitely check it all out. Marc
