Why Today rocks....atleast for me

After almost 2 years of graduate studies and 3 years as a developer I finally have an Offer which it seems would satisfy my hunger to do some 'Meaningful' work suiting my skills and my capabilities :-D. The money is good, the location is good (NYC), i hope the work turns out as good as i imagine. Some formalities before i join; me being a Non Resident n all but I'm sure Uncle Sam likes me, I've been a good Boy all these years. :rolleyes:

It's tough to resist... The commute really sucks... That's why I moved into town... 15 minutes on the subway, 5 minutes of walking, and I'm there.

Those get easy after a while... A-B-C = 8th Avenue Line 4-5-6 = Lexington Avenue Line 1-2-3 = Broadway line B-D-F = A little bit confused Anyway, think of them in terms of colors instead of letters/numbers. It's much easier.

That area is mostly commercial, but you could probably find a cheap conversion. You'd get a good quality building, but keep in mind that the area would lack the usual amenities. You've got the UN on the east side, followed by Grand Central and a bunch of midtown office buildings, followed by the insanity of the Times Square tourist scene as you move west. I mean, there ARE apartments, but it may not be the best neighborhood to live in.

The narrow specialist in the broad sense of the word is a complete idiot in the narrow sense of the word. Advertise here – minimum three posts per day are guaranteed.

Most points in Manhattan are within 20 minutes of any other point in Manhattan by train, save for a 5-10 minute walk here and there. If you can handle up to a 40 minute commute, you might want to look into western points in Queens (i.e. Astoria, Long Island City) and/or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, Fort Greene, etc). Because both areas are 5-10 minutes by subway from Manahttan, they've both been developed into really nice neighborhoods. As far as moving directly into midtown Manhattan, unless you're looking at "fixed income" housing, you probably wont find anything overly affordable, unless you're really lucky.

Thanks for all the info, I was in Long Island for almost a year and half and never quite figured why it was so costly.
