Whereabouts in the North West? Like anywhere else, the cost of living in the North West varies greatly depending on where you live.

I don't know. My friend said "North West (Manchester area)", but I don't know if she referred to Manchester just to sort of guide me as to where the North West was, or if it's really in the Manchester area.

I've received word that there may be on opportunity for me in the UK. What kind of salary is GBP 35k - GBP 38k? My source says it's fairly good for the North West area.

Check the following site to see what your monthly take home pay would be: http://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/[^] Looks like it will be in the region of £2,300 then I would check how much it costs to rent a suitable property in the area - or commutable areas if you have transport or if public transport would be suitable (and that's a big IF in the uk!). The following site might be useful: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/[^] Good luck!

Yeah, it's full of southerners buying second homes oop north whilest they are cheap. I go to Inverness quite often, and am meeting more and more SE Englanders who have homes up there or have retired there. (For anyone who has never been, Inverness is a great place to visit.)

In South Africa the big IF is "if you have public transport". What factors into the suitability of public transport in the UK? Thanks for the links. I'll check after lunch.

If it really is Manchester then that's not a bad rate.

That one is quite common here as well. X|

Agreed. We spent New Year up there in Nairn a few years back; very nice and not at all cold ever no not one bit honest.

The trouble is that kevlar clothing, bulletproof cars, and guard sharks-with-laser-beams cost a packet.
