    FOOOOOOOOOOMM[^] A jet powered Jag!!! OK, this is a NuttermobileTM but look at the engineering behind it. This has serious potential for the mass market if it can be scaled down.

        It's just an electric car, it uses 4 electric motors for propulsion and 2 mini gas turbines for electricity generation (like what model RC jet aircraft use). More to the point the next time you're behind some old banger that is blowing smoke out the tail pipe just imagine if it had an 80,000 RPM turbine under the bonnet.

        People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs

          "28g/km of CO2" - that is 30% of my 2 litre diesel. This is why it is interesting. An internal combustion engine is very inefficient.

              You can get large gains with any series hybrid platform. Non turbo/supercharged ICE's peak efficiency is around 80% of their maximum rated power. Jet turbines are effectively single speed engines; which is why the Abrams tank is (even by tank standards) a fuel hog. The higher acceleration vs a giant diesel would have been a major survivability advantage in the Fulda Gap; the price is that it's burning fuel as rapidly at idle as when going at full speed. TI doesn't help that as a cost saving measure during procument they used an off the shelf 3000HP helicopter engine even though the transmission is only rated to 1500Hp of power and even if it was rated higher the effective speed limit is already constrained by not battering the crew to death. My concern with the jag's aesthetics is that the sound profile at non racing speeds is going to be: lots of silence, jet turbine kicks on at full speed to top off the batteries, lots of silence...

              3x12=36 2x12=24 1x12=12 0x12=18

                Nah - a set of good speakers, and a synth tuned to the accelerator pedal position + speed of the car will do the job :-\
