Any tooth extraction is not a lot of fun! I hate the bit afterwards where my tongue "doesn't fit" in my mouth properly!

Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together.

Have some ice cream once you can eat. Or is that for when you get the tonsils removed? Oops :-\ .

Nah... Wisdom teeth are nothing. When I was a preteen, I needed oral surgery to remove an adult tooth growing sideways into my molars roots (roots pointed fwd, tooth backwards, "baby" tooth still on top). I discovered that day when oral surgeons ask if you want to remain awake during the procedure they're lying. Or at least their opinion of "awake" has little bearing to what I'd consider awake. Afterwards I discovered the word pain forever defined in a clarity I never want to experience again. Ug... X| -- Ian

Had mine pulled last week (number 2). It was fixed so well to my jaw, my dentist had never encountered such a thing. He went to make a photo of it, to see if there was something odd, but it looked ok. So eventually he had to drill the tooth in two so he could twist the separate bits and get them loose. Eventually it took 45 mins or something, most painful thing ever! Before I went to the dentist I was scared for a couple of weeks, but everyone kept telling me it would be a piece of cake, bunch of liars!

Ouch! My sympathies, I had to see a specialist to get mine removed because how it was positioned could have increased the stress on my jaw too much. One good slice of the gum with the scalpel so he could access the area properly and claw marks in the arms of the dentist's chair later it was over. I had a short lie down before going home but he did a good job of it and the gum healed perfectly.

Been there, done that, worst pain I ever experienced. Broken ribs is absolutely nothing in comparison. Falling off the bike onto a rock and scraping the leg to the bone, is less A broken eardrum from the pressure of an infection is also less pain.

Its not the extraction itself that hurts, its the dull aching pain that is non stop after.

I was lucky enough to only grow the one all up... although it did have to be removed after breaking apart due to no tooth underneath for support. For me the worst part wasn't so much any pain, it was more the creepy "feeling" of hearing it coming away from whatever was holding it in there... like a cracking sound and not being able to feel a thing.

My daughter had that done a couple of months ago. In her case, she developed canker sores from the minor scratches to the inside of her cheek from the procedure. I think those actually hurt worse than the surgery, since they were pretty large.

You may not believe it now, but the pain does fade over time. You'll feel better in a few days. My daughter's surgeon gave her a mouth wrap that we put ice packs in that helped a lot.

You're ~30, right? Do wisdom teeth come out that late? :omg: My first wisdom tooth appeared when I was 22, I thought that was kinda late. I had a pair pop up late last year that had to be removed. It was painful, but not all that much. The swelling didn't subside for several days though.

Been there done that. All 4 of mine that came in over the course of about 5 years and they all grew in high and ended up cracking the crowns off. Big mess back there now. Already ended up with one yanked but I have 3 left... The problem now is that with all the meds I am on (Chemo, etc...) no one wants to touch me with anything or prescribe me anything, so there they sit. No pain, and the last one that got pulled years ago ended up coming out pretty cleanly, but... I tried to get the dentist to just do it THEN but he didn't feel like doing it @ midnight :) Yeah, I was an 'emergency pull'... He should have known.. you let me out of the dentist office I am not coming back :)
