My wife has decided that we need to scan about 10,000 35mm slides and put the images onto some sort of computer media. Oh boy. Lucky me... I ordered an Epson v330 photo scanner for $99 to do the job. I hope it works okay. Of course, if it doesn't, I'll just take it to the shooting range...

So let's see: Given 10s pro scan + save, 10,000x10s=100,000s are about ... 28hours. Wow.

This one does four slides per scan (if I let the supplied software do it), and it takes 10-15 minutes per scan to crop/slop the slides. It's going to be hell... Yeah - 28 hours is about right... I'm gonna wear out the hinges on the lid.

Consider that she has equal access to - and is familiar with - all of the firearms in the house. Yeah, it's love... :)

Isn't this the point where you're supposed to decide that a more expensive scanner with an automatic feed chute whose cost you can largely recover by reselling it after you're done is the only sane approach?

I did something similar recently, resist at all costs the urge to go too high on the resolution, it's just not worth it and makes the whole operation hellish.

It might come to that if I make her do the scanning, and remind her every day that we're one day closer meeting the must-ship-by date in order for the finished product to reach the intended recipients.

That sounds like a better plan except that if you were planning to spend her time discussing the time/money tradeoffs before buying an entry level scanner might have been a good idea.
