To Christian Grauss and Marc Clifton re air flights [modified]
-
Christian, when you state "then catching a plane that was going to fly anyhow, in order to meet to discuss ways to control it, would make perfect sense." you obviously arent aware that planes use more fuel when more heavilly loaded. It's to do with angle of attack. And as for your question about offsetting, are you serious? Are you really happy that your tax money is being spent this way? Its your country after all. Marc "As the 64 flights, the article says 93 people. So, the per person cost of about 6000 seats comes out to about $160. First class? That's a heck of a lot cheaper than what I pay for coach on most Southwest flights. Seems like a good expenditure, frankly. If people would only do the math, it would be pretty easy to see through the BS media hype." It doesnt state that all 93 staff went to all 64 seminars (not flights by the way) so your sums are invalid. The srticel does clearly state "The trips cost taxpayers more than $2.74 million in airfares and $1.6 million for accommodation and meals. The Government's special envoy on climate change, Howard Bamsey, was the biggest spender, racking up $229,000 in travel costs during 2009-10."

Didnt realise this was a chat website. That is such a lame comback Dave, is that rerally the best you can come up with? And by the way, if my GW posts arent removed anyway (regardless of votes) they generally average out at aound 2.5 which shows quite clearly that you only speak for 50% of those on the forum.

You were having this conversation several hours ago when he was awake, and you failed to mention it then. Presumably because the thought hadn't occured to you. That is fine, but to have a riposte 6 hours later is not showing you at the top of your game.

No, I wasnt having this conversation because: 1) I was asleep 2) The post got deleted before I could respond thus it wasnt a conversation.

That's a fair comment. But my main point is that your crusade on AGW (With which I have sympathies, I don't agree or disagree, but I find the lack of evidence appalling considering how much money is being pissed away on it), is becoming obsessive with you. Keep it in the back room and I am happy to argue/discuss, but keep the lounge a little lighter in tone.

Its funny how much the few hate this topic. They cannt ignore it, it gets them so annoyed that they have to respond with invective and 1 votes. Says a lot.

I wold have been happy to have discussed it in the back room if The Deleter had moved it there. But (and I suspect it is Christian sinc ehe is the moderator for most groups it seems) then leaving a comment, and then deleting the post without letting me repond is not fair, hence forcing me to repost here.

I think it is more the fact that it is being brought again and again that annoys, more than the topic itself. Try with world hunger, after the 50th post, everyone will be tired of it, although we all know it is a problem. Or maybe it is even more specific, it is the topic + the fact that _you_ are posting about it.

That may or may not be a valid point. (Hard to tell who is deleting them). I try never to univote any fair posting (Excepting You Know Who and his usual diatribe on his 'Hateful Point du Jour'), and I have not voted you down. There does come a point, though, when a single issue is 'Done to Death', and a change of topics is called for, for a while at least.
