I was wondering why the GIT and GCT were started and it just struck me! To keep the drivel out of the lounge! It is working great! Very cunning of CG. :) But seriously, what exactly is the point of a 'hinglish' lounge on a English programming site?

I had a look at the Chinese one the other day, and all the posters looked the same to me.

Isnt that the common racist jibe?
Yes it is. Unfortunately, there are quite a few "vocal" racists here at CP. It is a shame...

We've all just resigned ourselves to that fact, but at least your sober posts are legible and typically clear...
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

It could be considered so, if you forget that this is a geeks site and we always take the piss out of each other. It could also seem so if you are one of those people that think racism is a unidirectional phenomenon.

Oh, yes we do take the mick, but we should not condone racist jibes. Its just distasteful. Do we really need to do that? Surely we can rise above that.....

We are all Racist. Certainly during the World Cup I was rooting for England, I didn't want the nasty Hun to beat us, but they did. So I showed my racist colours. I am sure you would shout loudly for England too.

You are joking right? I can only hope that your comment was in fun. Just because you were rooting for England doesn't make you a racist...you know that don't you.

Why don't we spice up your question with a hinglish answer? ;P 'Hinglish' -- a mixture of Hindi and English widely spoken in India may soon become the most common form of the Queen's language, according to a British expert. And as ancient as it can get: http://www.rediff.com/news/2004/oct/17hing.htm[^]

Plus, I only down-voted him. Didnt report it as abuse. It was only the gentlest of "prods"

And if you consider it racist (which I don't) it could only be considered 'gently racist', to (possibly) coin a phrase. It could also be considered as a stereotyping remark without any overt racist intent. It could also be considered factual, from any direction, as most people have difficulty in distinguishing members of other races/ethnic groupings from a quick glance, unless there are dramatically distinguishing features, my beard and thinning pate for example.

Interesting read. I wonder how far that has progressed in the intervening 6 years.
