A gentle racist is the opposite end of the racist scale from a violent racist, many of whom I have had the misfortune to meet. Whilst it is true that you cannot be slightly pregnant, there are degrees of racism. Just as there varieties of ass-hole, once again I have encountered many during my life, and continue to do so an an almost daily basis.

As Reginald D Hunter once said, too many people get upset about the racism that might upset someone a bit and ignore the racism that kicks the sh!t out of people. Or words to that effect. IIRC he was talking about the Jade Goody affair, which was a stupid white girl being construed as racist by other white people. Soft targets and all that.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

I suspect you do not understand the term Race. The English are a Race. The French are a Race. A Race is a Nationality or Group based on Cultural Similarities and Shared Heredity... Example... a group of persons related by common descent or heredity. or a group of tribes or peoples forming an ethnic stock: the Slavic race. or any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc.: the Dutch race. It is from the French 'Razza' meaning Lineage. To apply it to the Phenotypes of Humanity, Caucasion, Mongoloid or Negroid is a relatively recent diversion from it's original meaning. Although, Oddly Indians are Caucasion. Discuss.

But you are still a racist, gentle or not. A bigot is a bigot regardless of your definition. And yes Henry, I am an asshole and damn proud of it.

I'll have to agree with this. Racism generally hurts people who are sensitive to it whether it's gentle or violent. It's okay between friends when they have a laugh about such topics but to the outsiders it will just be that one word: Racism.

You are right. Racism is racism, but there are degrees not to mention intentional and unintentional racism. We have to be very careful what we admonish people for or else we and up in the ridiculous political correctness lunacy that was prevalent a few years ago. Did you know I was once told off by one of these zealots for calling someone "a red-headed bastard", turns out that if I had just called them a bastard, that would have been OK. Daft I call it!

My Brother is married to a Chinese girl which is one of three seperate links I have to Chinese people. They are equiped with a sense of humour, and we take the piss out of each other, it is one of the best ways to bond with people. I have not seen you complain at Any Australian/English banter that regulary occurs in this forum and will be more prevalent over the coming months. Its attitudes like yours which are the reason my kids will be celebrating the 'Winter Festival' in school instead of Christmas. I take the piss out of everyone and I expect it back from everyone.

I see, so Dictionaries do not feature much in your life then? How sad. Just because you disagree with something does not make it wrong. Sometimes the truth is just too hard for people to accept. I notice how quick you are to play the Race Card, and yet strangely, I have made no racist remarks, merely accurate ones.

Why don't we spice up your question with a hinglish answer? ;P 'Hinglish' -- a mixture of Hindi and English widely spoken in India may soon become the most common form of the Queen's language, according to a British expert. I am not sure Hinglish will be very popular, since it's essentially a sub-dialect of Indian-English which is now globally accepted as a distinct dialect of the language.

Why do I get the feeling that you're being a little too cheerful on this?

I am not sure Hinglish will be very popular, since it's essentially a sub-dialect of Indian-English which is now globally accepted as a distinct dialect of the language.

I like both Hindi and English but I would rather that they stayed as separate languages than sprout something called Hinglish. That basically ruins both languages in one Masterstroke.

I have not heard Hinglish so I can't comment on that. But Indian English does not usually involve mixing in a local language. It just refers to the unique language usage we have in India, which includes expressions, phrases and semantics that would basically be ungrammatical in the rest of the English speaking world, but acceptable in India.
