:omg: How empty is your life, if this is all you have to worry about? Boy! how I envy you. (I would have put double spaces between sentences on this post, but they get stripped out :( )

Non-breaking spaces work.

I do it, can't help it. My fingers just double tap the space bar after each full stop. Nothing I can do about it. Could try breaking them to teach them a lesson I suppose, but not sure it would really achieve anything.

It is a fall over from using mono-spaced fonts, I get that, but we have been in proportionally spaced land now for some time now. I think it is time that some folks just got used to it. For those that complain that they have just been doing it that way for a long time… sorry… time to change. Do you use the same excuse when syntax changes in new languages?
yes

Wow - you would shoot people for an extra space here and there? Why does it bother you? I never even notice it.

When typing a paper and ending a sentence, you put in a period then hit space TWICE before starting the next sentence? If you do you should ALL BE SHOT! Come ON, I think we have progressed just a bit here into the proportionally spaced fonts to NOT have to do that anymore? Please? Can we just end the madness? I looked all over and tried to locate a setting that would NOT allow this as valid thinking that it was most likely a fall over form the older days of mono-spaced fonts, but I can’t seem to find a place to mark this as ‘wrong’ (IE: Green underline it).

I still do it, and I'll shoot back (but of course, you probably knew that).

As a writer, I still double-space after periods. Whether it's necessary from a technical standpoint is irrelevant. It looks cleaner with two spaces, as I see it. It's easier for the eye to follow it, and when you're writing fiction, you don't want people to be distracted by difficult formatting.

Is that quite a few people have put double spaces after their full stops, without realising the the browsers will ignore the additional spaces unless you use or

Yes.That's what he wants. Hmmmm. At least, I think that's what he wants. Frankly I'm not even sure if I should be using one space after a period.Or perhaps none at all. Can I still use one space after a comma? I'm so confused now.All I know is two spaces after a period is bad.Every sentence as it's very own paragraph, good. Oooh. Now I've got it. If I just do every sentence as it's own paragraph I'll never have to worry about how many spaces to put after each period. ;P PS Just for the record. I still put two spaces after a period. It just seems right to me. One after a comma, two after a period. :-O

Well when the proportional fonts start putting the equivalent of two spaces after a period automatically instead of just one, I'll concede you have a point. Until then I'll continue to think you're an idiot, as are the people who wrote the html rendering rules to ignore double spacing without having to jump through hoops. Sample text from word 2007 in fixed and proportional fonts.[^] (11pt, 100% zoom) PS ASingle spacers should ALL BE STABBED through the kidneys.

Ok, I read that and I'm sure it's a good story, but I really couldn't understand the plot - it was a bit complicated. Could you explain it to me please?

Poster 1 claims double spacing after period is no longer needed because proportional width fonts make it unnecessary and threatens gun violence against those who disagree. Poster 2 demonstrates that in fact current proportional fonts don't make a single space after a period any wider than a single space in a fixed width font, Poster 2 then laughs and then returns to what he was doing. PS The FollyWeird version of the story has a different ending. ...poster 2 then follows poster 1 into an alley and then stabs him in the kidney's with a bowie knife. Unable to scream due to the pain poster 1 isn't found before bleeding to death and the rats start snacking on the remains.
