Whereabouts in Luxembourg are you? I used to live near the city centre at Rue Gustave Kahnt (I was working with Scottish Equitable at the time).

I am actually working in Bertrange, just to the east of the city itself, past Merl, near Strassen, but I am staying in a house on the rte de longwy, about 15 minutes out of the city. Its OK Luxembourg. The city is a bit calm sometimes, compared to Leuven and Paris for example, it hasnt got the student population they have, but apart from that its OK. The Grund/Clausen is OK, and petrol, drink and fags are cheap!

In the summer, the market place is a great place to sit out and enjoy a few beers while watching the world go by. Do they still have Chi Chis there? Here's a bit of Luxembourg trivia for you; the market place scenes in An American Werewolf In Paris were all filmed in the marketplace in Lux because it was deemed more Parisienne than Paris.

Here (in Ireland) we have all this week like that. On Monday wind gusts were reaching > 100kmh as it was yesterday as well. I tell you this: it is no fun riding a motorcycle in such a weather :((, rain adds more required driving skill pints too. I was seriously considering needling some high-tech sails and attaching them to the frame. Eco-friendly, wind-powered motorcycle!
Trust is a weakness.
I was sitting in my flat, it's one of the newish ones with loads of glass down near the Dockland area, and I looked up from my bacon sarnie last night to see the thick, double-glazed window ballooning in with the wind like a sail, and vibrating. It was then that I realised what the giant hum was running through the frame of the building. A little surreal to say the least.

Yeah, its still there. But the main square is real touristy. I prefer the Gare, beer is a lot cheaper, and the world is way more interesting to look at!

Yeah, I'd say it is even a bit..uhmm..scary. As I work next to Dublin airport, there is plenty of room for the wind to pick its' pace so you could hear a high pitch noise (like whistling), definitely not the best addition to all the other noise around here. P.S. melchizidech now you have a proof that the building you're in is high-wind-proof and building contractors weren't saving on a quality glass :)

Your geography is screwed to hell. We are only 40 minutes or so south from Holland, alongside germany, (and to the north of a lot of it), and directly to the east of Belgium.

If its only curiosity, and not a spoil for an argument... :) Sweeden is northern Europe too. Given that Europe extends fomr the arctic circle to Africa it is not erroneous to desribe Luxembourg as being in Northern Europe. One could actually use the Ollive tr line as a border, since it does distinguish the climate nicely, in which case almost all of France is alos in Northern Europe.

There was a hell of a wind here in Luxembourg, must have been near 60 mph at times. Aparently the UK had it bad too: Wind speeds in some parts topped 90mph, with widespread storm-force blasts making it too dangerous for planes to land at one airport, felling trees and power cables and causing bridge closures. [^] Anyone else experience it too? --edit-- Aparently the wind here got to 90kmh and ther depression covered a lot of EuropeComme une partie du nord de l'Europe, le Luxembourg se trouve sous l'emprise d'une vaste dépression qui devrait faire ressentir ses effets des côtes bretonnes aux rivages de la Mer Baltique, balayant au passage l'ensemble de la Grande-région[^]

Just a note, it wasn't me that downvoted you... But I'll counter it. Have you got an idea of how close Svalbard (yes it's part of europe) is to the north pole? That's Northern Europe, along with Scandinavia... ;) Edit: If I give you a 5 it just says "Voting..." in green and nothing happens? Will try IE instead... Edit2: Worked with IE8 bit not FF? Around here we call that a "blustery day." The wind blows about 10 to 30 mph all winter, but during a storm we are particularly susceptible to 'microbursts' in the 70 to 140 mph range. What that does to power poles and mobile homes is rather exciting.:~
