Windows Phone 7 Buying Experience [modified]
-
Just read this article and I wanted to see what other people's experience was buying a WP7 device (sorry if repost): http://blogs.computerworld.com/17346/more_bad_news_for_microsofts_windows_phone_7_launch_potential_buyers_are_not_pleased[^] You don't actually have to read the article, but I read it and I was like "yeah, that's exactly how it was." I'm up in good ol' Canada and the story is basically the same. I was going to get one on launch day but I got caught up in the office and couldn't make it to the Bell store in time. I make it the next day (Nov 9), walk into the store, and look around to try to find the glorious WP7 display I was sure would be there. Nope, no demo phone, no dummy phone, not even a mention of it anywhere. So a rep approaches me, and the conversation goes something like this: Me: I'm looking to get the LG Quantum Him: *confused look* Me: You know, the WP7 device? Him: *confused look again* Ummm, I don't think it launched yet. Me: It's on your website, it launched yesterday. Him: Ummm, I think it got delayed or something. Me: Hmmm, I was on the phone with customer service verifying my hardware upgrade elibility to that phone and they didn't mention anything about them being delayed, he told me to go to this store and pick one up. Him: Well, uh, let me check. He then goes into the back room, comes out 3 minutes later with a phone in his hand and proclaims "look at that, looks like we got a few in the back!" I did end up purchasing the phone and I absolutely love it, but seriously, what the hell?!?! Not even a demo unit? No info stand? The staff don't even know they have one? What is going on? What an epic launch fail... Anybody have a similar experience? EDIT: Also, side note, ALL the apps in the marketplace STILL have ZERO or maybe 1 rating...really?

No. I tried Windows Phone 7 at stores in Portland Oregon and Atlanta GA. (eventually I end up ordering on Amazon) and I had a good experience. The sales reps really knew about the phones and I had plenty of time to play with the phones.

No it is not on Amazon yet! HTC Surround, though I am not very crazy about it.

Ok. 2 day delivery, so you should get it on Monday (or maybe Sunday if they deliver on weekends).

Wow 4 days. If I order something, I usually can't wait to have it in my hands!

no delivery on Sundays. And normally not on Saturday (fedups charges extra for that); so they don't count towards your 2 *business* day delivery. I've only got an amazon package on Saturday once a week or two before Christmas.
