Drooling Over iMac

I bought a Mac Mini and a KVM to do iPhone development. The Mini sits behind my monitors and I can click the KVM remote to switch between it and my PC on my 24" monitor, using the same mouse and keyboard. It's on my network and I can do all the development I want for both without having to reboot or use a virtual machine. It works great! Cheers, Drew.
That was my plan back when I was only interested in the Mac to develop for the iPhone. But now I'm diggin' the whole integrated form factor. Seriously, you need what... one cord? That's brilliant.

If I were concerned about junking materials or money, I wouldn't be drooling over an iMac, would I? Laptops have that same flaw (heck, they make you throw away your keyboard and mouse too), yet people keep buying them for some reason. :) Though, I wonder if the iMac has an input for the screen... that way, my next PC could actually make use of the screen.
Long ago (10+ years) PowerBooks could be used as a secondary monitor to another Mac; they determined the direction of the video connection at start-up, and when an input they just didn't boot the OS. I don't know how it evolved since then. :)

Nice. Hopefully they've actually improved upon that... you know, by allowing you to use the monitor whether or not you are booted up, and to switch while the computer is on.

I was just drooling over the possible configurations you can get with an iMac... 16GB of RAM, an SSD, a quad-core, and so on. I just need to have a first-born child to sell so I can afford an iMac. I also noticed part of the configurator allows you to add on a printer to the bundle. That got me to thinking, wouldn't it be nice if the printer was integrated into the iMac, just like the screen is? Heck, the screen could be used as a scanner too. I wonder if we'll ever see that. Wow, drooling over an Apple product and coming up with silly ideas for features. I think I'm going to the dark side. Save me before it's too late!

Then I bought a Time Capsule and then I bought another iPhone and then a Macbook and then an iPad. Now I want a Macbook air but I ended up buying a Windows Phone 7 instead.

Well, you are obviously set to buy & like the damn thing - so go ahead. When you start developing for the iPhone, please remember me and shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation bug that makes it work only on root controller.

I have my laptop since 2004 and the only things that have changed were the dvd drive which my 2 year old busted a few months back and I replaced the HDD.

It's not as bad as it seems. Hell, if I could integrate my iMac with my bathroom, I would. Until then, I will stick to taking my MacBook with me to the bathroom instead (because my computing activities are so important that things like going to the bathroom should not stop them). In any case, the only thing that you shouldn't integrate with an iMac is your bed, as it would prevent you from getting up and going to work. Oh, shit, this actually happens to me.

What makes you think selling your first-born will net you enough money for an iMac? It's over 6 billion of those critters around.

That's just silly. The mouse/keyboard combo has already been tried (on laptops), and that's been shown to be a poor combination. Printers are so common now that they should be included with the computer, and they are not tied to frequent user interaction, so combining them with the computer might not be such a bad idea. And there is actually a common example of a printer integrated into the computer/screen. Ever seen Strongbad emails? :)
