<anti-rant> To counter act the rants with an anti-rant: just installed MS Office 2010: the silly gold round thingy has been replaced by a proper "file" tab. The dude that came up with the silly gold round thingy probably got fired! </anti-rant>

Yeh, and the File tab is a different colour depending on which app you are in. It would have been better to have it one colour, and if the document/spreadsheet/powerpoint etc. had changed and not yet been saved, change to another colour.

Hadn't spotted that one, is indeed a tiny bit non-functional. Maybe they'll get it right in Office 2013. Other than that I haven't seen any obvious changes yet (I'm not an office power user though).

Is that the thing that looks like a tab, has the name of what is usually a menu but actually opens up a completely new screen which clicked on? Course MS aren't the only guys trying to confuse everyone, Paint.NET has menus that look like tabs.

They'll have probably completely changed the UI again by then.

Affirmative. It does look like an improvement over the silly gold round thingy, M$ probably got phoned silly by old grannies trying to find their old File menu.

Maybe that their way of solving the caption bar bugs, like the one where you can not just drag a maximized office window in windows 7, when all other applications work... that drives me insane

I can confirm that this works properly with MS Office 2010. Well done MS! Anyhoo, not too long ago, pre win 7, you couldn't drag maximized windows at all, so you got spoilt pretty quick.
