So - I started a small business a while ago, developing software for a particular market, in partnership with a distant relative who works in that area. So, I spent approx $50,000 of my time and cash in my 'spare' time developing the software, installing it on a server, hosting it, updating it. My partner essentially ran the software a couple of times (testing) and pretty much F* all else. So I gave up on him and decided to go it alone - but don't have the business background, and wanted to start again on the software - both to ensure there's no argument about his involvement, and to improve on what I did by using new methodology and software. I heard about BizSpark[^], read up a bit, applied and was granted membership. So, now I have access to stuff like VS2010, windows 7 ... in fact about the entire range of Microsoft products. For free. (for design develop test and demo) No way could I have afforded this - I was looking at a MySQL DB for example - now I can go SQL Server - and if I understand the small print, I can keep using this all for the business, for three years, at the end of which I bung them $100, or can continue with an MSDN subscription at reduced cost. I mean - why wouldn't you?

Yes, Microsoft rocks for ISVs! Note after your subscription expires you can become a microsoft partner which still saves you a lot.

How long did it take for the App to be processed? Any problems? I had a quick look - all I have time for today - but it could be well worth my applying.

BizSpark can do that for you? Wow. MS really need to start advertising these features more - it would make for a much more entertaining advert than all that I'm a PC crap.

That didn't turn out quite right did it? They do do some good things but don't advertise, I guess cause a lot of people would take advantage of it and sales would suffer. They really do need to work on their adverts though I agree, they suck the big one.

There used to be a Micro ISV membership last year (Microsoft Empower for ISVs), but it has been discontinued as of last May. I guess it was perhaps too successful?

Well, Bill Gates could not be described as being as generous as Timon could he?

Apparently last year he could, but at the moment not anymore indeed. But, I downloaded all the keys and iso's that I need, so with a bit of luck I won't need MSDN anymore until the next VS release.

i filled in the form, with all my contact details and a one-liner about the business. I got acknowledgement email the same day saying someone would be in touch. I got acceptance email less than 2 days later - no email, no call, nothing.
