With the date of the royal wedding next year fixed for the Friday after Easter, and the Monday before May Day, you can (assuming normal Monday to Friday working week) get 11 consecutive days off work by using three days annual leave. Friday 22nd April - Good Friday Saturday 23rd Sunday 24th Monday 25th - Easter Monday Tuesday 26th - Annual Leave Wednesday 27th - Annual Leave Thursday 28th - Annual Leave Friday 29th - Royal Wedding bonus bank holiday Saturday 30th Sunday 1st May Monday 2nd May - Early May Bank Holiday So book the three days now before everyone else gets the idea.

Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.

I was off yesterday (photographing retired superheroes hanging around Midlands hospitals mostly).

Yay another EXTREMELY late Easter that lines up with my Birthday (21st April). I Think I will be booking some time off around then to enjoy it properly.

It was announced on Monday. Within 10 seconds I was looking at the holiday board and realised the potential. I had my chit raised and signed in no time, as I do not think anyone else realised in time. Stupendous amout of time off!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we (the company) are not allowed to do that until the start of the year. I've put a reminder on my Google calendar for the day I get back to work :)

I strongly suspect my company will not be honouring the extra days holiday. (At the very least they may agree to it unpaid) :(

Depends on the wording of your contract apparently; Contracts that list specific bank holidays that staff are entitled to, such as Christmas Day or Good Friday, will not entitle staff to an extra day next year. Equally, staff whose contracts' state they are allowed 5.6 weeks' annual holiday "inclusive of bank holidays" are on dodgy ground. Only contracts which state the worker is entitled to four weeks' holiday a year "plus bank holidays" are likely to be safe. Or you work for a nice company of course.

Yup, this is the category I'm in. They even go as far as to fix several days holiday over Christmas when they close down that we have to take.

Time for a Bob Hawke quotation:- "Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum".* I say this as an unashamed royalist. * Said after Australia won the Americas Cup in 1983 - the first time it left the US since its inception.

I take it you'll not be getting the extra bank holiday the following year for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee either then? Assuming she lives that long

Nice quote, but knowing that I'm jobless because I was sacked by a bum isn't going to pay the bills. (It's not my boss anyway, it's just the company ethics. They want to make money, and don't want to give up production time for a royal wedding, and I do kinda get that)
