Anyone expert in AS400 - DB2 ?

Just as there is no appropriate forum to this... is anyone expert in AS400 - DB2? If so, my question would be the following: what are and how to handle in Oracle the "Packed" fields of DB2/400 ? Thanks in advance for not crying out loudly that this is not the correct forum...
I tried a popular serach engine, but hey that's just me.

If only somebody could invent a technology where somebody could search for the text from servers and websites all around the world. Perhaps the content could be indexed somehow. Oh, if only somebody would invent this. I, for one, could find a use for it.

Al Gore invented it - it's called "google". Al wanted it to be called "Goregle", but thatnkfully, that name was unanimously rejected by other interested parties.

well, from memory the packed fields on the AS/400 use a single hex digit as a decimal integer... So the number 1,234,567,890 is stored in 5 bytes as 0x12 34 56 67 90 How to handle them in Oracle? i think if you access them using SQL it will 'expand' the comp-3 field on select so you should have no issue... Cheers
