Yes, yes and yes. We are development whores, and will do anything for the clients money. This explains why gathering user requirements feels like lap dancing a fat, sweaty bloke.

Stop right there. We don't need any more info on that nor do we need to be told how you came to possess such knowledge. If someone asks for more info, just keep quiet! :~

Just curious, based on Chris' rant. So, do you actually develop applications that have a ribbon bar, or do you use the old fashioned menu and toolbars? Do your customers demand that you create a UI with a ribbon so they feel like they are in the "modern" world? Marc

I only write in-house software, so not sure how valuable my two cents are here... But #%)*@# NO :) The ribbons are one of the reasons I, after the MS Office 2010 beta ended, ditched it and switched to what's now LibreOffice instead of purchasing it (The price wouldn't have been an issue, if I thought it was actually better). The only thing I like about the ribbon interface in Office is the custom chrome... I like the "Office Button" that replaces the system menu, and having a small toolbar right on the title bar beside it. As for the ribbon itself, though... No way. In my experience (We use Office 2007 at the office), the ribbon makes it easier to do the "normal" things, but if you want to do anything fancy at all, it's LESS convenient, not more... Have to keep switching back to the Home ribbon after you do something like autofilter or spell check.

Proud to have finally moved to the A-Ark. Which one are you in?

All I can say is, that was one tender process that was not fun.

I've never had to write a ribbon based UI in my life. No one's ever asked me for one either. I have not even created one for academic purposes.

                    1. find project. 2) add MS ribbon-like interface. 3) profit!

I don't know if you are picturing yourself doing the dancing, or receiving the dancing... Either way, that is a very, very disturbing thought that will take a long time to remove from my brain again. The really scary part is that I find it a very apt description of the process.

                              I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

I've never had the misfortune of using crappy Windows ME, although I've heard stories.

I actually installed ME on one machine for my kids to play on. It stayed on for a total of 3 hours after completing installation before I formatted the drive and reinstalled 98.

                                      I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

I don't know if you are picturing yourself doing the dancing, or receiving the dancing... Either way, that is a very, very disturbing thought that will take a long time to remove from my brain again. The really scary part is that I find it a very apt description of the process.

Therapy. Lots of therapy. Alternatively, try consuming vast quantities of alcohol; I find that helps.
