Speaking as someone who has lived in an area regularly cut off by snow, it does get to be a bore. Ample supplies of antifreeze are essential. (Our digs in Wyoming were at about 6800 feet, surrounded by 9000 ft peaks. We were snowed in several times every winter, for many days at a time. Although never 8 days at a stretch. Speaks to the impotence of the snowplows, methinks.) ;)

Once, when I was a kid in Vermont, we had large number of relatives over for Christmas. Something like an additional 5 adults and 6 kids above the normal number, in a small house. We got hammered with something like 6 feet of snow between Christmas and New Years; the airport was shut for over a week. Every day, my one older sister who didn't have kids was on the phone trying to book a flight out of town. It provided the family with hours of amusement for years afterwards, recounting her increasing desperation...

It could have been more serious - they could have run out of beer. :~

Back home in Crestline, we got snowed in for ten days once. Three snowstorms in one weekend can do that. The official tally was about 5' of the stuff, but I measured 9' in my yard. Being mid-March, the snowplow people let the tanks run dry for the year, and by the time they realized their mistake all roads were closed up the mountain. Fortunately it was still possible to walk, and the bar in the center of town 2 miles away became Town Hall, serving drinks with cracked icicles and snow in place of cubes, cooking hot meals over a wood stove. From there we dispatched teams on quads to remote homes to check on food supplies and deliver needed items we all pooled. When the electric company helicoptered repair people in to restore power, another bar in another part of town set them up a command post and barracks on the dance floor, and served the men sandwiches and hot beverages to keep them going. Once a few people with really large vehicles packed the snow on the local roads, we could get around by truck rather than walking everywhere, but it was still an adventure until the main passes were cleared and the plow crews got back to work. As you mention, it was our saving fortune that the booze delivery trucks got through to the bars before the storm hit!

I never knew beer could be a replacement for condoms, or quarters for that matter. You learn something new every day. :)

Given that Manchester is not one in of the thankfully rare countries that uses silly coins by that name, I imagine you mean that the corralled punters lost interest in hind quarters. Poor things.

Just some univoter finding an outlet for his/her immaturity and frustration. Nothing to worry about, I'm sure she/he will get the hang of things eventually.

Most likely! With all the recent baseless down voting recently, I'm starting to think it would be a good idea to show who voted what.
