Neither the Catholics or the Protestants accept resposibility for what the "common followers" do in Northern Ireland, so why should the Muslims take the blame for what a bunch of morons decide to do in their name? Personally, I find institutionalized persecution much scarier and more distasteful than what individuals or groups choose to do "because (God/Jehova/Allah/Buddah/Hare Krishna/Bill Gates) told (me/us) to". I agree with you. Moverover this young population lacks probably an efficient educational system, if there's even one. It's better for the petroleum multinational corporation which really rules Nigeria to have uneducated and superstitious people, they're easier to control.

One bit in that article caught my eye though - "The north in effect controlled Nigeria after independence until the end of military rule in 1999." A quick lookup confirms this, also noting the different ethnic groups that once divided the northern portion from the rest of Nigeria. My suspicion is this has not much to do with religion at all, but is instead another situation where a large, young population is feeling disenfranchised and powerless in their own country, and taking it out on whoever and whatever (Christians, churches, travelers...) they can find. Add to that the standard senseless violence you get with any mob, and you've a nice recipe for chaos. Shog9 ------

Sounds a bit like Brigham Young, I belive he recieved similarly convienient messages from God. No, you're just sensitive to the possibility. My post tried to restate what Paul Watson said a while ago.
