Website for posting photos of paintings to sell?

This might be useful: Share your art here[^] Edit: Some of the paintings/photos may not be KSS/SFW. Sorry if this offends you Marc...was not my intention. The site still looks legit though.

I have a friend who is interested in a website where she can: 1. post photos of her paintings 2. have people provide feedback 3. and also offer the paintings for sale. What websites do you recommend for 1&2, and do these websites usually have restrictions regarding generating some revenue from sales of the paintings? E-commerce isn't required, and my friend does not want to use FaceBook. :) Thanks! Marc
Hi Marc, I think that a personal website with the name of the artist as domain name is the best way to do it for several reasons: 1. It is a professional independent way of promoting the artist. 2. It gives the option to show high detail images of the art, something potential buyers will appreciate. 3. A lot of artists are active in multiple disciplines ( painting, writing poems and so on ) and a personal website provides the space to present the whole picture. 4. The website can provide a historical overview of all the previous work to people who are interested (also the work that's already sold). 5. It's a source to link to in articles in media, blogs on the internet and when SEO optimized it will come up in the first listing when someone Google’s for the artist (Google for whatever you want and see that domain-names with the subject you search included are all way’s top listed). 6. The layout of the website can be an Artwork on itself and is very important because it's the first impression that people get! So My advice would be to build a personal website.
With friendly greetings,:) Eric Goedhart

My wife is working with an artist creating a wordpress blog template for him. He currently sells through http://www.artistrising.com/[^], but she is setting up his own store on his site for him because he wants more control. The website is: http://www.digdougsart.com/[^]

She should check RubyLane http://www.rubylane.com/[^]. It specialises in Art and Antiques. Maybe the associated RubyPlaza site [^] is good to.

Remember what industry one of Marc's customers is in. NSFW isn't likely to be a problem for him on a personal level.

Interesting. I never thought of selling any of my paintings. That could be worth pursuing.
