Until the last week or so I haven't been doing very much coding for about 3 months. For whatever reasons I couldn't summon any enthusiasm. I have been hard at it recently though and find that towards the end of the day I develop a real bitch of an ache between the shoulder blades. I know it's bad posture but no matter how I try not to, when I'm 'into' something I slowly hunch toward the keyboard and screen. I've had this before but can't remember how I got over it. My chair and desk are well positioned and adjustable, so I don't think it's those. I think that in the new year I'll get my eyes tested to see if new specs help.

I have an idea! Lay on the floor or a bed, and hang a monitor and keyboard from the ceiling

Ever see Grandma's Boy? I can't find an image or clip, but JP's desk was like that.

That's the movie, I just can't find a pic or vid of his desk. Did I just see a boob in that image search?

              (0) Good idea to get your eyes checked. That's often overlooked. (1) No posture is good for a whole day. (2) Corollary: even a perfectly adjusted chair, desk, monitor isn't good enough. If you take it serious, change between different types of chairs. Alternatively, get one of the really expensive ones where you can unlock the seating area to swivel around at least one axis (better two), and unlock it for a few hours a day. (I happen to like these[^] as secondary, a collegue switches between the adjustable chair and a simple wooden arm chair) (3) Swimming for an hour a week helps a lot in losening those neck muscles. You don't notice how bad it is until after the first lane.

Have you tried coding while standing? Requires a new desk (usually), and you might want to raise the screen. HTH, Daniel

That's a good idea but unfortunately impractical in my case. One physical and one financial.

We really should stop "writing code" and start "saying code". :)

Wasn't that the time you hired three buxom young girls to walk on your back wearing nothing but their birthday suits? I seem to recall that it made you feel better.

From memory, that was the time before. I think that last time I used on of those folk remedies. A young wifes tail.
