      Another compensation.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it. My latest tip/trick

Apparently there is similar b@ll@cks going on with HDMI cables: it's digital info you goons...

Well, HDMI 1.4 is talking at just over 10Gbit/s, which is pretty rapid. Cable quality will affect the digital signal, especially over longer runs. At HD frame rates, you can't really resend corrupted data - you just display what you have, and that will manifest as artifacts and incorrect colours on the screen. It will appear to be just like a low-quality analogue signal. Having said that, £135 for this[^] is pure snake oil.

My neighbour recently spent over 3,000 Euros on a couple of ten-foot speaker cables. My mind wandered off, while he was describing them (and their "perfect" specs) to me, to a world where humans have senses that can actually detect the differences in electricity that's travelled through minutely different materials. There's gotta be a story or three in there somewhere (maybe including a few sharks with frickin' laser beams!) There are probably a lot more stories that could be written about people being ridiculously gullible, though -- the amount of material available for research is immense.

OK, mention you've had a problem with signal intermodulation effects at work. Now he will have to ask and you explain how two signals don't just add together but create combined frequencies and give an example of inaudible road traffic noise modulating sound from a Hi Fi system and creting products a few Hertz higher which could give the immpression that certain notes are slightly off pitch.. Evil? Moi? *flutters eyelashese innocently*

Clickety[^] It reminds me of that old Not the Nine o'clock News sketch "Gramophone". Youtube for those too young to remember[^] I haven't bought any decent sound equipment in years, but I suspect the sales staff are still as arrogant and condescending...
