NASA, Hadley center. FAIL!
-
Why are winters warming up so much faster over Northern Hemisphere continents than over the rest of the globe? A new study by NASA researchers in the June 3 issue of the journal Nature is the first to link the well-documented large degree of North America and Eurasia winter warming and the associated wind changes to rising greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere. [^] FAIL! The British-Irish Council study predicted for the main Scottish islands ... average snowfall could decrease by up to 89% ... The work was carried out by the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research, which is part of the Met Office. [^] FAIL! Its great what these people do with tax payers money, £33 million computer systems, endless studies, grants, research... and without fail they get it wrong.
"It is a remarkable fact that despite the worldwide expenditure of perhaps US$50 billion since 1990, and the efforts of tens of thousands of scientists worldwide, no human climate signal has yet been detected that is distinct from natural variation." Bob Carter, Research Professor of Geology, James Cook University, Townsville

After freezing body parts for the first part of December, it should get up to 48F today. The very cold weather in Ohio in December is unusual. The warm day is not. Rode my motorcycle for the first time in two months. :)

1. Within a few years "children just aren't going to know what snow is." Snowfall will be "a very rare and exciting event." Dr. David Viner, senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, interviewed by the UK Independent, March 20, 2000. 2. "[By] 1995, the greenhouse effect would be desolating the heartlands of North America and Eurasia with horrific drought, causing crop failures and food riots…[By 1996] The Platte River of Nebraska would be dry, while a continent-wide black blizzard of prairie topsoil will stop traffic on interstates, strip paint from houses and shut down computers." Michael Oppenheimer, published in "Dead Heat," St. Martin's Press, 1990. 3. "Arctic specialist Bernt Balchen says a general warming trend over the North Pole is melting the polar ice cap and may produce an ice-free Arctic Ocean by the year 2000." Christian Science Monitor, June 8, 1972. 4. "Using computer models, researchers concluded that global warming would raise average annual temperatures nationwide two degrees by 2010." Associated Press, May 15, 1989. 5. "By 1985, air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half." Life magazine, January 1970. 6. "If present trends continue, the world will be ... eleven degrees colder by the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age." Kenneth E.F. Watt, in "Earth Day," 1970. 7. "By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people ... If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000." Ehrlich, Speech at British Institute For Biology, September 1971. 8. "In ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. Large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish." Ehrlich, speech during Earth Day, 1970. Happy New Year to all True Believers
"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth. I have observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." ~ Benj Franklin

539 new snowfall records set in the US - just weather? US record lows outpace record highs 21 to 1 this week - just weather? But what about the coldest UK winter for 300 years? Just weather - caused by global warming, of course.

Didnt you know? GW causes snow! Yes, aparently the more heat the mlore evaporation you have and the more snowfall you have! Seriously, this has been stated by the True Believers. Of course the fact these record snowfalls have coincied with record cold has totaly escaped them... In any case, all this is just weather. Everything is just weather. If you get enough of a particular kind of weather you get climate, but its all weather. What it all does clearly show is that if CO2 is having any effect, it is so small it cant be isolated from natural variation. As my sig states. And yes, CO2 *should* have an effect, in theory, but its proving damn elusive to detect in the real world.

If the global temps go high enough, it'll bring the glaciers down out of the arctic and signal the start of the next ice age - we're all gonna die!
