How can i get rid of start-up programs and their relative systray icons from Windows 2000/XP. Back during the days of Windows 98/ME, there was a utility called msconfig that i used to do so. Is there anything equivalent of msconfig in Win2k/XP ??

Regedit :-) Look for runonce, and above it is 'run', the stuff in there gets run on startup. If they are in the autoexecf, etc., sysedit brings them all up for you to edit. OK, maybe not as easily, but it's certainly doable. - Jamie Nordmeyer - 15-Nov-2002

Win2K uses the Startup folder like previous versions, too, and I assume XP does as well. These are different for each user, and are stored in Documents and Settings. A shortcut for reaching them is found in Start/Settings/Taskbar & Start Menu/ then select the Advanced Tab. Click the Advanced button and open the Programs folder. In there you'll find Startup; this contains the items to run at startup that are unique to the current user. You can also navigate up the folder chain and traverse it back down into the All Users and Default paths to access the default startup items that are common to all users. I don't know about the version that you have but my version of WinXP Pro still has msconfig. It doesn't show up under system tools in the start menu though. You have to type msconfig at the run prompt. I really feel like a noob though now that I changed from 98 to XP so I could be wrong. Brad Jennings
