Win 7 - more than 50% 64-bit

I thought that the installation disk came with both 32bit and 64bit versions. Perhaps they were referring to installations, not sales.

I just read in someone's blog that Microsoft was reporting that more than 50% of Win 7 sales were for the 64-bit version. Does anyone have a Microsoft source link for this stat?

I do think that most new PCs come with Windows 7 64 bit. At least that is what I found unscientifically browsing through computers in a store.

The disk comes only with the 32bit version. To get the 64bit, you simply install it twice. :rolleyes:

Most windows installs are done via OEMs, it's easy to ask the big ones what they're selling. The Steam hardware survey[^] has 64 bit installs leading by more than 3:1, (35% vs 11%) but its data is biased towards higher end systems since Steam users are all gamers.

For my MSDN they are images, for retail they are DVDs.

I would expect that since AMD or Intel have not produced a 32 bit only x86 processor in over 3 years and 4GB of ram is less than $100 again.

I think that's only for Ultimate. I'm almost positive that was the case with Vista (When I bought Vista Ultimate, it came with both 32 and 64 bit versions).

From my last job as a admin I still have friends. It is a huge international corporation. Any there they just started moving to win 7 and winserv 2008 r2. Win 7 64 bit. I also have some friends(not really friends more like people I know) at some other major players in the auto and IT bussnisses. As far as I know they are all shifting to w7 64 bit.

Intel is still producing 32bit mobile atoms. The N4xx series were the first 64 bit atoms for netbooks. The 6xx atoms they launched in sept/nov for embedded systems are still 32bit only, and may show up in windows tablets later this year.

They don't - neither in store, nor as MS download. In some MS software programs, you get licences for either-or, but it's still different media.
