Rather than post what I am selling, I'd like to post what I'm buying... Most online auctions allow somebody to post their merchandise online so others can bid on it. However, I would like to do the reverse. I'd like to post pictures of clothes I have in hopes that somebody will be able to either find it online for me or sell me theirs. The reason being that my clothes wear out every now and then and I'm really picky, so it's hard to shop for things I like. I often try searching for the clothes, but come up empty handed. If I could just replace my clothes with new versions, I'd be set. Anybody know of any sites that offer some solution like that?

You're an ASP.Net dev - write one! Seriously, I think there's a market for a buyers' mart where people can post their wish lists and receive offers; it's not a bad idea, and it's one I think you should pursue.

People are lazy by nature. They won't search for your picture. They will look for those things they need. And by Theory of Probability it's hard to suppose that someone stumble on your post and will have an item you need.

Well, people need money, so maybe that would encourage them to help others find products. I know I'd be willing to pay a premium to replace a pair of pants I know I really like (all too often I come across pants with wide legs, an annoying button, an annoying noise when the legs cross while walking, or that don't match many of my outfits). And of course a picture wouldn't be the only data to go off of. I could, for example, add that the brand is "Haggar", that there is a large "Q" on the inside, the size information, the color is brown or khaki, the waist is expandable, it uses a clip rather than a button, they are not pleated, they're made of 85% polyester and 15% rayon, and that there is no cuff. If this website had, for example, drop downs that allowed you to select different options, that might help people enter the information more accurately. The picture would just add context so somebody would have a better idea of what they're looking for.

I considered that, but I'm not at a point in my life where I'm willing to invest any serious amount of time in a project like this. Like you, I'm still trying to get promoted at the job I already have and I'd rather spend my weekends camping than coding even more than I already do. Thanks for the encouragement though. :)
