The 40F is the temperature (in Fahrenheit) I guess, or is that not what you meant? :)

Correct. Maybe only an engineer would even notice...!

40 Fahrenheit is 4 Celsius, so pretty near to freezing point of water which is 0 Celsius; So if you are referring to temperature of that cola, it's really cold and the text is appropriate for that. I don't see your point.

As cold as ice is a figure of speech, my good sir and is never meant as literal. If it was meant as literal it would be called frozen... :)

        I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

Unless... I wonder what the freezing point of cola is...? I may have to experiment!!

LOL! I'd be worried about other things freezing rather than my cola!

The temperature of ice can vary. And I think the freezing point also depends on atmospheric pressure. :)

OK, OK! How about pure water at the typical pressure found inside a vending machine (~1 atm)? :)

Google for "supercooled water" and you'll find out something surprising.

The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

Very interesting! I was aware of superheated water (in the microwave for example) but hadn't read about supercooled. But pure ice at 1 atm will always be 0C (32F) or lower! My cola wasn't!! (Can I get my quarter back?) :-D

I suppose that makes sense since the boiling point of water changes with altitude, I would assume the freezing point would change as well.

                          I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

True. So it really depends on which floor Colin's office is before we can judge if it really is a fail or not.

You appear to have enough latitude as it is. Your altitude, however, might be relevant.
