Vending machine fail

Very interesting! I was aware of superheated water (in the microwave for example) but hadn't read about supercooled. But pure ice at 1 atm will always be 0C (32F) or lower! My cola wasn't!! (Can I get my quarter back?) :-D

You will when you stop whining about your stupid cold-but-not-cold-enough-for-you-cola.

I suppose that makes sense since the boiling point of water changes with altitude, I would assume the freezing point would change as well.
I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

True. So it really depends on which floor Colin's office is before we can judge if it really is a fail or not.

You appear to have enough latitude as it is. Your altitude, however, might be relevant.

And how cold is ice?
That depends. It may not be cold at all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_VII[^]

Unless... I wonder what the freezing point of cola is...? I may have to experiment!!
It is actually below freezing: sugar interferes with crystalization. I believe Coca-Cola freezes at around 28F if in an open container, lower still if its in a bottle or can, because of the pressure inside the container.

At work. The machine has a little scrolling display... "ICE COLD COCA-COLA --- 40F" :wtf:
We've got one of those machines here. I hate it. It's as big as a house and as noisy as a jackhammer.

You should see what happens when you open a bottle of beer or soda when it is too cold :)
A while ago he asked me what he should have printed on my business cards. I said 'Wizard'. I read books which nobody else understand. Then I do something which nobody understands. After that the computer does something which nobody understands. When asked, I say things about the results which nobody understand. But everybody expects miracles from me on a regular basis. Looks to me like the classical definition of a wizard.

The temperature of ice can vary. And I think the freezing point also depends on atmospheric pressure. :)
Ice nine freezes at 114.4 °F Dunno where to find any though ;P Maybe in a cat's cradle.
