I've had this beast for a few months now - a Samsung Epic 4G - and I've noticed a pattern of behavior that is disturbing. When I sit at home, or travel to work, the battery lasts about 12 - 14 hours. But when I visit my lady 30 miles away, the battery goes flat in about 8 hours. Why is that? I have the same signal strength at both my house and hers, though there is a dead spot between that lasts about five minutes at normal highway speed.

    Will Rogers never met me.

Is it the same kind of connection at yours and hers? 2G, 3G, 4G, edge, hspa and whatever they are all called.

3g turned on traveling through towers is a drain on battery power as well as while driving and having Wifi on remotely picks up all networks it travels through and is also a drain. turn those off before driving. that is my best guess. traveling with wifi and 3g could easily suffer the battery life.

Apparently, a poor 3G connection tends to use a lot of power. It could also be due to switching between 2G and 3G (or what ever you have in the states). As an experiment, turn off 2/3/4G next time and note the results.

Probably poor connection leading to the phone constantly swapping methods - we have crappy service at home & the wife's Desire (joke there somewhere) runs the battery down quickly some days when the 3g is particularly poor - looks to me as if it loses 3g, starts up edge or something, then finds it has 3g again and re-negotiates. As she also has wifi and bluetooth going, it all leads to quicker battery drain. That, and playing bejeweled all friggin' day :) If your Lady (capital 'L' is appropriate, I feel) lives between two or more towers, your phone could also be renegotiating between them constantly... Place the beast (phone not Lady) next to an unshielded speaker and see if you constantly hear the interference as it negotiates.

Turn the vibrate OFF. There is a non KSS joke in there somewhere I'm sure of it, it just sounds wrong complaining that your vibrating phone has a short battery life when you take it around to your ladies place. I can't believe no one jumped in with this

Disconnect wi-fi as if will keep searching for a wi-fi signal and this drains the battery...

The phone is searching for a wireless signal regardless of whether or not it's actually being used.
