Why is code project so popular and not other developer forum websites ? Have you given it a thought? What makes a website stick? Why does people return to some websites where as other with similar functionality perish? Whether "Don't Make Me Think" is important or is it the "Design of Everyday things”? Graphics and CSS make a website effective, or Web standards? I would love to know what YOU think ? If this interests you, I have a proposed a Session at Mix: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Websites ! Don't forget to Vote for it here[^]. It's going to be amazing !

not other development sites? what about SO, experts exchange? and many many more. its only popular to the idiots that actually use this feature. the 'lounge' theres no actual knowledge here thats worth a damn. the place is full of half assed answers and a bunch of egotistical tards who dont actually know anything but think their gods' gift to programming. to be honest this is probally the worst of the popular dev sites.

Unfortunately, some of our highest ranked people are only here for the rep points...IMHO. Take away their points and watch out.

I don't respect half the turds that come to this site and with that they probably don't respect me either. Lets not get too carried away. This is a great site but some of the people here aren't that great.

Take away our rep points, and it will be like it was before rep points were introduced - we'll still be here, and still be participating. We happen to have a lot of rep points (in most cases) because we've been here since the site was instantiated and participating in the site. The only reason I don't have a 10-year/7-month tenure is because I didn't register as soon as it was made optional to do so. If I had, my account number would probably be in the low 3 digit territory.

Experts Exchange? You think that's a better site than CP? BTW, why'd you change your user ID from "JFergulbops"?

"Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass." - Dale Earnhardt, 1997Experts Exchange better?. I won't say that it is better. EP is purely for Q&A and not for socializing, where as CP is both. I use CP to read interesting articles and the posts in lounge, and I answer questions on EP. If you held a gun to my head and made me choose the one above the other, then I would choose CP. Why do you say?.... Because you can always go to the lounge for a good laugh.

I speak only for myself, but I think that the personal attention paid to contributors by the founders - Chris and Dave and Uwe, et al - has a lot to do with it. CodeProject is a home to many of us, not merely a code warehouse like so many other sites. We are a community, and a family, with a Dad we can always chat with when things get out of hand. We seem to attract a crowd of good people which others don't; perhaps that's because we don't tolerate prima donnas very well. They tend to get ridiculed out of the Lounge and Forums rather more quickly than in other groups. There is also an indescribable sense of welcome here - I'm not sure what fosters this. I remember one of my first posts - I had just bought a Rabbit 2000 processor, and had great plans to build a credit card reader and other wonderful devices with it, so I asked if my postings would be welcomed here, knowing that it's a Microsoft house. Chris replied, "hell yeah, post it!" Well, I'm paraphrasing, since we all know that Chris would never say "hell," pristine and pure Canadian that he's become. But he made me feel welcome to contribute, even though it was far off topic. We continue in that tradition, welcoming all who have an idea, and I predict that, on the day we stop doing so, we will begin a downward spiral to extinction. I never did a damned thing with that Rabbit 2000 processor, by the way. And though I bought its successor last year with the intent to build a pump motor controller, I've never done anything with it, either. That's the story of my life; more ideas than hours available to realize them. Oh well...
Will Rogers never met me.
Well said. My first was posting a question in the lounge and was immediately flamed, not seriously but they let' me know that I had screwed up, that was ~8 years ago.
I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. http://www.hq4thmarinescomm.com[^]
