I was half joking a while ago about having shot to many squirrels last year but I couldn't find a one today... even had my trusty squirrel dog with me... and she is good at rousting them. What a sad thing. I hope there are still enough left to make more for next year... I would hate to have to find a new squirrel hunting ground. --------------------------------------------- The greenest grass is NOT on the other side of the fence, its the grass you take care of. Pardon me for asking, but why are you hunting squirrels? Surely, there can't be much meat on a squirrel. Or do you do it for the fu{r,n} of it? :) -- If I had the ability to smooth talk like John Simmons, this post would be less sarcastic and more to the point.

There was a recent case of this in the uk, a squirrel would approach people and attack them. The uncle of a little girl who was attacked got it though. Would you like to meet my teddy bear ?

I used to live in a town that called itself "The King Crab Captial of the World". They used to haul in millions of pounds of crab a year. Then, when the kings were fished to the edge of extinction, they switched to Dungeness crab and changed the motto to "The Crab Capital of the World". It's amazing how many people are too stupid to make the connection.

Why do you hunt squirrels?:~ Do you hunt for fun (!?) or American cooking is far worse than I thought? I would hate to have to find a new squirrel hunting ground. It's a shame that those f**king squirrels can't manage to reproduce themselves after you shot them. -- Looking for a new screen-saver? Try FOYD: http://digilander.iol.it/FOYD

What kind of rig do you use ? I have a little old Ruger 10-22 with a Weaver 3-10X big bore ( 1") scope that is great for squirrels and rabbits. The big scope is great in low light abd I have a lighted reticule to make it easier to get dead on. The Ruger is zeroed at 50 yds and shoots about 3" low at 100 and about 1.5" high at 25 yds. I can get sub 1/2 " groups at 50 yds with this setup using LR Match grade ammo. I still hunt - no dogs - and the area we hunt is full of pecan and hickory trees and fairly long range shots are common. Head shots only though since I prefer HP ammo and a body shot doesn't leave very much meat undamaged. Come on down to Texas - we have plenty of big old fat fox squirrils running around all over the place - bumper crop. for rabbits i just use a .22 pellet gun... kinda have to so I can shot them within city limits... bunnies on the other hand I use a 10 gauge w/ either 7/8 or 1-1/8 shot. For larger game like deer I prefer a 308 bolt action rifle... and if I'm out for anything bigger I get out my 'real' gun. --------------------------------------------- The greenest grass is NOT on the other side of the fence, its the grass you take care of. I should mention that my true sweetheart is a 287 bolt rifle... have never missed with it... although I have gotten a few "mistakes" over the years. Just the same... with a little walking I've found my mistakes so all is well that ends well. --------------------------------------------- The greenest grass is NOT on the other side of the fence, its the grass you take care of. For deer in Texas I use a Remington 223. For Colorado and Utah ( we hunt in one State or the other every year we can get tags, time, and enough people ) I use a 7 MM Mag. Deer in Texas run rather small in most cases ( about 120-150 lbs ) in the area we have our deer lease so there is no use in getting out the big gun. I've dropped some rather large animals with the 308, but admittidly, if I miss the mark, they then to run quite a ways which makes a lot more for me. The 308 will drop an elk if the mark is good though... and I like it cause its small, light, and a good conversation piece. --------------------------------------------- The greenest grass is NOT on the other side of the fence, its the grass you take care of.
