You're right, there's no love. I didn;t even mow the lawn last weekend!
:-D Anyway, good luck with the house hunt. I hope you find one that suites your needs better :-)

We've found one already, just waiting for the transaction to settle.

We just needed a bigger one, twins due in < 2 weeks!

Ah yes, a 98 score does indicate something near or in the middle of downtown, and I wouldn't expect that to indicate a big house :-) The twins are your 2nd (and 3rd) kids, right? You have an older daughter? (vague memory). And the twins are girls too? If so you'll basically be living in a sorority house for the next 16 years, outnumbered 4 to 1 :-)

It's about 5kms from the centre. There are lots of bigger houses in the area but out of our price range.

Almost right, we have a 2.5 year old son and the twins are both boys. Their mother wants a female dog to attempt to balance things out a bit :)

www.walkscore.com[^] This is a pretty interesting use of google map data, the web site gives an address a score out of 100 rating how many services are available in walking distance. My current address in Sydney gets 98 and it's an awesome place to live, we hardly use our car, shame we had to sell :( My previous address in Amsterdam got a perfect 100.
Hmm, I got 22 - "Car-Dependent." Interesting because my score includes a corner store that is only 1.18 km away...by boat. It's across the river which is wide and fast moving. It also misses a gas station and corner store less than a kilometre away that I walk to every now and then for snacks. And another about 2 km away that I stop at periodically (both of which have been around for more than a dozen years). I think this think may be good if you're in the middle of town. For the rest of us it would be better if they used driving distances rather than as-the-crow-flies distances. Cheers, Drew.

I got 87 in Sutherland Sydney. Not bad, though I'm not sure if they've included the recently opened supermarket and restaurant(s) in it.

Pretty much :) but imagine being the father of the Olsen twins, that would come with its own set of challenges that could only be met with a shot gun.
Well yeah, as a dad, having a son is easier on the heart (specially when they enter their teens) and you don't need shotguns either!

According to their blog their about to release an upgrade that measures the actual walking route.
-
It would be interesting seeing their algorithm - I live in Epping, NSW, about 20mins walk (1.38km) from [almost everything], and I received a '48' ... I dont think 20mins walk (unless carrying a sh*tload of groceries) is too bad. It seems weighted against more than a 10 minute walk - Im hazarding a gross generalisation, but surely this is culture/background dependent - when I was in San Diego for instance, people wouldnt walk a block, whereas I think nothing of up to 30 minutes

I must say, I don't think much of it either.

That's like getting divorced and sleeping together for a couple of months longer but not bothering with the foreplay..

I didn't think that was required when you're paying rent...

True. In fact when you pay for it, they don't usually allow foreplay. Or so I've been told.

Very strange. One end of my street scores 98, the other end 80. The street is only 200 metres long.

45 35 for me @ home. The target was off initially, but not too far :)

   Interesting, and so bad... The nearest park is in another state, 20 miles away unless I want to walk across the Colorado River, in which case it's only 2.49 miles. It only lists one bar - a gay bar - though there are two or three closer, and much more to my tastes. The only restaurant listed is a filthy drive up that serves Mexican food you can smell for blocks because they never change the cooking lard or wash anything. There are at least 6 decent restaurants the same distance from my house. The entertainment listed is Don's Kids' Kastle, which is a baby-sitting service located in another state, 15 miles away, inside a casino; the map shows it two blocks from my house in a residential neighborhood. Not nearly ready for prime time... I won't be using it to locate fun thing to do when I'm travelling.:suss:

The things I dislike about a lot of the north west of Sydney is there are no paved pavements to walk on. You have road, grass and peoples front fence. Perhaps that has some effect. We're in Leichhardt, when I generate the map you cant see the roads for the 100's of little icons.
I'm a stone's throw from you then - Summer hill. Do you bus it to work? Train takes about 22 mins for me.. cheers
