Just trying to enter a serial number into a piece of software (I won't embarrass the Very Large, Well Known German company that produced the software, because, well, the actual product the software is related to is superb). I assume from the big circle-with-a-slash-across that this is a error:

Effect: List of Models cannot be ascertained
Cause: Constructability of the selected aggregate

I think it means "I can't find that serial number" and is badly translated. But I just ain't sure...

Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together. Digital man: "You are, in short, an idiot with the IQ of an ant and the intellectual capacity of a hose pipe."

And if you get an error number you will have to search for it in the documentation where you will find exactly the same riddle.

At least it tries to give you a cause, kinda... I'm dealing with a third-party system that gives me errors like: "DB Error: Could not save price." And that's it... Given that it's a response to an API function called "uploadPrice", that's about as useful as "No, I have a headache." :)

I'd rather not, they are not a software firm, and this software is meant for meatheads. And trust me, I do mean meatheads. All the more reason for getting the error messages right! The error did mean what I thought: I misread a weird shaped curly thing should have been a one, but I read it as most likely to be a seven...
