[Updated] Which security solution do you swear by?

I second MSE. I bought Kaspersky to replace Panda (don't ask, and don't go there - it's a PITA), but installed MSE as a temporary measure. Works so well, I never did install Kaspersky...
Real men don't use instructions. They are only the manufacturers opinion on how to put the thing together. Digital man: "You are, in short, an idiot with the IQ of an ant and the intellectual capacity of a hose pipe."
But Kaspersky is also a good one. i used that one in my desktop and trendmicro in my notebook. both are good to for me and no issues for me.

I had this as my first ever Antivirus when I got my first PC. It came along with the motherboard as a free gift. Was fairly decent at that time but I made the mistake of switching over to the nonsense that was Norton. So what's your experience using it? In terms of memory usage I'm not a stickler for it but I would like my PC to not be robbed of too much resources. :)

One noob question: Does MSE include a Firewall or do I have to go with a free alternative for it?

Yeah true. Does Trend provide a firewall along with it? I rather loved Kaspersky's firewall. It was wonderful.

Microsoft Security Essentials provides antivirus and antispyware protection. Upon removal of OneCare, the Windows Firewall will be enabled to provide inbound protection.

Sounds like you've had too much of it. :-D The only time I used Norton was way back in 2000 and 2002. Installing was a pain, scanning was a pain, updating was a pain and uninstalling it was a breeze. Only thing in which they succeeded in proper implementation. :sigh:

Windows Firewall is decent but I guess it will have to do. If possible I'll look at free firewall alternatives. Thanks!

It is so big and bloated and eats resources, and getting it off the machine is a pig as well. Nortons is almost a virus itself.

Oh crap. for us only the socail networking sites like twitter, facebook, orkut is blocked. rest of the technical sites are all opened.

MSE, if you like a freebie. If you are looking for a commercial class product, then choose either McAfee or NOD32. They both are currently doing good in my opinion.

It so happens that my license for Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 ran out about 2 days back. I'm pondering about getting the 2011 version instead of renewing my own. A friend suggested McAfee and some other name which I forgot. Which ones do you people use? I'm open to suggestions. Suggestions: Kaspersky 2011(mine), Trend Micro, NOD32 and Microsoft Security Essentials as of now. Thank You!

The windows firewall is NOT okay (a tinfoil hat would be slightly better in comparison). I'd recommend that you get a hardware based firewall (most routers have a firewall inbuilt) or get a commercial antivirus suite (that would contain a decent firewall).
