And what have you come up with so far? Your language makes this seem more of a demand than a question. If you present what ideas you have, or what you have tried so far, it may help.

Neither a SharePoint Designer nor a custom webpart will help with this. You will need to create a Lookup column in your list that references the appropriate document library.

Thanks Mark I will present you my full requirements in brief I am going to develop a EDMS system in Sharepoint 2010. Initially I have to concentrate on 4 type of documents. 1)Incoming Letters 2)Outgoing Letters 3)Transmiittal Out 4)Transmittal Response 1)Incoming Letters: Incoming Letters are letters received from client. There are few meta data which is simple. The tough part is there is a distribution list for "action by" and "View By". In action by distribution list mutiple people will be selected and a email will go to them with a link of the document. Also a task have to be created for all of them selected. For "View by" distribution list all the selected people will get email with link for view. 2)Outgoing Letter: Outgoing letters are letters which can be in response to Incoming letter. If they are in response to Incoming Letters, there should be an option to select the incoming letter (linking) where there should be a drop down list. Also the task which gets open for the action by people must be closed. 3)Transmittal Out: In Transmittal there are many meta data required, but few which are difficult I am mentioning. There should be transmittal number which is auto generated. In transmittal there should be option to link other document, max 5 documents can be linked. There will be no file upload, rather a new document should be generated with a print of transmittal. 4)Transmittal Response: It is similar to Outgoing Letter where it can be linked to Transmittal out and there will be distribution list for "action by" and "view by". After this there should be option to create registers like reports with option to select some parameters like date, discipline. Also a search page is required where various meta data fields for search parameters Mark please advice me how should i go about for these requirements

I get paid to design and construct solutions. If you have a specific question, then ask, otherwise try something yourself or contact me to discuss my rates.

OK Mark, let me ask you specific question 1)How can you create reports on document library and its meta data? 2)As you had mentioned that I have to use lookup field to link a document and reference a document library. Is it possible to filter this document library on a specific content type

                1. Of course you can, but it depends on what you mean by report and what tools you are using. 2) Again it depends on what you mean by filter. You can create a new view of the list or use the CQWP.

At this point I would advise you to get some SharePoint training. From your questions and responses it is clear you don't have a sufficient understanding of the technology to understand my responses.

this[^] might be useful for you to creating lookup field with filter.
