don't know, but I tested it today and got the figure I posted. perhaps its the plugins & extensions I have installed.

yes, it was some extension that made the acid test fail.

ok, so IE9 doesn't support NON-STANDARD extensions to the HTML5 not-yet-a-standard specification. WHOOP-DEE-DOO!!! HTML5 is a *moving target* bird-brain!

Hello all, Just downloaded it it seems it works better than the beta that was here till today. A bit changed in the graphics side but imho its a little bit better. Apart from that it seems more robust than before and there are plenty of places that I needed to visit them in the compatibility mode that now work without it... Well, let's see how much time the joys stands...

It makes little sense to support a company and browser that releases a new updated browser that's still several years behind the competition. And just because the W3C is slow to evolve doesn't mean other companies have to be held back by their lack of progress. Lets get real. What's one of the top activities users do in a web browser? They upload file(s). With IE you either have to use a 3rd party plugin such as Silverlight or Flash to get multiple file uploads or spend all day uploading files one at a time. Try editing a photo album online with 100s of photos you need to upload. You would have to be bird-brained yourself to stick with a browser such as IE9 that's stuck in the stone age for such a simple task. Hey it's 2011 how about we get a browser that can do file uploads with a proper progress indicator without having to use a 3rd part plugin. Want to attach multiple images to your email message? With chrome and gmail it's as simple as drag'n'drop right onto the email. Try that in hotmail with any IE browser. I'll move to whatever browser that's best in class and that's certainly not IE9.

I don't know, when IE9 beta appeared I installed it and it was a complete replacement. Time for a vm and test it? Anyway it works really well.

:laugh: Probably I'm still in the group of the ones that still believe that they can do nice things... I've never tried firefox... so I can't compare... but IE9 it is working nice by now and I like it and enjoy using it.

I think the biggest problem with IE is the pace that fixes and updates are deployed. Other browsers are constantly beeing updated so new features get to the users quickly and in small pieces. So if some feature gets broken, it's quick to reverse and new features are delivered and tested in large scale in a much more linear e fast way.

Well, there are plenty of jobs in the IT world that don't require specific web skills apart from getting information. In my case I'm programming robots and other devices. I need a lot of the skills that one learn in the university. But till today I've never needed nor used the Firefox browser. So I don't think you are right... Or probably if using a web browser could be considered like being a race car then the job that I do would be more close to being a space station in another galaxy... ;)

Well, there are plenty of jobs in the IT world that don't require specific web skills apart from getting information. In my case I'm programming robots and other devices. I need a lot of the skills that one learn in the university. But till today I've never needed nor used the Firefox browser. So I don't think you are right... Or probably if using a web browser could be considered like being a race car then the job that I do would be more close to being a space station in another galaxy... ;)

:laugh: I think you misunderstood me. I too am not a web developer. I'm specialized in Desktop Applications, Microcontrolers and the conversation between both. BUT, as someone into technology, I beleive firefox is the prefered choice among techies (I'm not advocating it's the best) and IE is pretty much despised by most of them. Really, It's been a long time since I met a developer (Desktop, Micro, Web, or anything) that uses IE and never used Firefox. Really, the amount of useful add-ons alone makes firefox an excelent choice. So, maybe I should rephrase my analogy: "It's like to be a Formula 1 driver and pass an invitation to drive for Ferrari." :)

No - it's 97/100 even in incognito mode with all extensions disabled.

Meh.... I've used FireFox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, Netscape Navigator, ..... but usually fall back to IE (latest released version). I am typically a Desktop App with DB dev and dabble in Silverlight/ASP.Net. I rarely come across things that don't work for me in any browser and really don't use all the add ons. In my opinion, much of the war is just hype fueled by Professors in university drilling it in everyones head that anything Microsoft is EVIL. Ho Hum. Bores me to sleep. If IE was exactly like Chrome was exactly like Firefox what would be the point? enjoy the diversity and if you want the majority of real world users to be able to use your web apps, ensure your pages work on the browser most likely to be used to visit your site rather than your personal favorite. "Web Standards" aren't really standard, they have been in flux since the first attempt and probably always will be if progress is to be made.

Not that it will change whether you need Firefox or not but you may be interested in these trends just out of curiosity. Browser usage

When you are a company as big as Microsoft with a history as long as Microsoft and a product chain with the market share of Microsoft where people are not compelled to use the latest version, a lot of effort has to go into making sure that you maintain backwards compatibility. And when there is a time that comes to break the backwards compatibility chain, the legal team gets involved in the whole bureacratic nightmare as well. And what about security issues? The more the browser interacts with the local system the more security issues that come up, and while noone would think of trying to litigate against an open source project, Microsoft is considered the lottery by many. The latest greatest is not what gets market share, most real world users still barely know how to get on the internet with an always on connection. The users are becoming more sophisticated but by and large the largest user group is not. So, take some things into consideration before trying to demonize.

Well, it's nothing about that really. It's just about how useful and fast it can be. Firefox is much faster than IE in pretty much every site I go (Chrome can be even faster). IE makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes, so slow it can be. I haven't tried IE9 RC yet, but man I can't beleive you don't care about performance of IE and the goodies firefox provide. And Add-Ons are relly useful, I use only a few that has real good use. It's just like when I had my first smartphone. I never neded it, why have it? Today I can't live without it, it makes my life easier in countless ways. Just because you don't use it, it doesn't mean you can't benefit from it. And if a page don't work in firefox, it usually works on IE and vice-versa. So for that I have the IE Tab Add-On on firefox. No need to fire up another browser, just click a tiny icon on the status bar and voilà, the page gets rendered using iexplore.exe and I can instantly use a page (and also save that setting for that specific page) on a compatible renderer. Since I like analogies, I'll throw one more: "People never needed airplanes, but that doesn't mean Cristopher Colombus wouldn't love to have had one".
