There some free copy of Doom 2 available on the net. But I am getting older as well, so there may be more recent games out there, did not check in a while.

I was going to suggest just that: Retro Night with Doom - haven't had one of those for a long while... :-D

Depends on what kind of game you're looking for... Strategy, Sim, Shooter, RTS, etc...

Anything that is widely accepted as Interesting. Like AOE, NFS, Counter Strikes, etc. But I'm in no mood to spend for games.

          * I'm finding myself getting older. :sigh: * The last three years I haven't even touched any form of games.pc/xbox/video, Nothing. :sigh: * Now I have a LAN setup at home. * Could someone recommend some real-nice network games.. which is free, a demo or an evaluation version, and it shouldnt cry for a graphic card and 4 GB ram. :sigh: * Should be swift in 2GB with graphic cards on a Sempron machine. :-D What a scrooge! > Recently my mind is prefering to talk in bullets, than Paragraphs. > Excuse.

1994[^] - It was the first game I played on LAN, on Windows 95. This was a time where you had to spend 3 hours to set up the network before everybody could see everybody :) It was also the cool time of BBS[^]'s, still no internet, where everything had still to be developed. The best time of my life. :sigh: And after that we played Quake and Team Fortress. Even better a game.

Why not stick with the best? DooM, using DooM Legacy[^]. You can get no end of new stuff for it from idgames ftp site, and from sites like this one[^] It might run a bit slow in an 8086, but I really don't think that will be a problem.
