IE9 - opinions?

Chrome 10 is shaping up to be quite nippy though.. I am currently running chrome 11.0.672.2 dev.. :laugh: They are going crazy with versions. But I admit I bumped my current project version from 0.3.1 to 1.0.0 yesterday. However that was signifying that it now has all required features complete. Maybe I should have gone for 0.9.X though...

I have been using it since beta, and am now using RC. It is pretty fast (although I think this point is moot, as latency and bandwidth can nullify this), and some annoyances have been fixed. For instance, the compatability view is now properly sticky, by site. One remaining annoyance is that when opening favourites for the first time in a session, all the mini icons are IE default, and it can take several seconds for them to appear correctly, during which time the mouse freezes. It is the same for each folder in favourites, when opening for the first time in a session. Other than that, it works.

I've been playing around with javascript (link below cough cough) and canvas and overall it seems pretty solid and comparable with the current batch of chrome and firefox versions.

IE9 Beta for some weeks, updated to RC yesterday. *shrug* it's a browser. Super-Paste-Linkety doesn't work on this one web site that has the most super paste-linkety, but I trust this will be fixed with/soon after the real release.

Seems fine: have it on all my home machines and everyone is quite happy with it: no problems so far other than with a couple of sites where a few pages will not load properly so fall back to FF.

I love it! The beta was a bit flaky, but the new RC version rocks. I find it to be easier to work than previous browsers. Now that I know the RC version works so well, I'll install it on my other machines.

To be honest I do not see much difference in any of the versions since I do not really make use of any of the new HTML standards.

Every time I go back to IE I end up running right back to firefox... IE seems to always lag years behind firefox in features and functionality!

Ah yes.. but IE9 RC is still quicker (sunspider-wise). Here's the results om my machine: IE9 RC : 292ms FF 4b : 333ms Chrome 10b: 344ms Opera 11 : 333ms Firefox is sucking more each day.. the only reason I use it is because of firebug at work. Number of HTML/CSS-features on FF is nice though, but it still crashes alot. IE9 RC is now my main browser besides FF for development. I think it's awesome. They're missing some CSS3 like gradients, text-shadow, etc. but atleast they implementet border-radius, border-shadow, svg, canvas and other goodies!

like it a lot, but already gave a couple points of feedback to the dev team 1) don't treat the tabs as a "special bar" - if you separate the tabs on to another row, and then have say, favorites bar and the Bing toolbar, your tabs are still way at the top, makes for a very unintuitive interface. 2) it still can't handle textboxes on webpages that have large amounts of data. i run a forum that has a textbox in its configuration which contains e-mail & IP addresses off "bot" offenders/registrations. this list is huge. Firefox & Chrome can open the config page w/o delay, and allow me to edit the data in the box and submit the changes. IE9 hangs completely, just as IE8 did. interestingly enough i'm not finding a whole lot of pages that require me to put it in compatibility mode, which is nice.

In the past month I have been using it, I went from hating it to liking it much better than IE 8. I thought I wouldn't like having all the tool bars gone, but now I hate seeing 10 lines of junk in other people's IE 8.

IE9 seemed fast on first using it. Now seems to have slowed to a crawl. Several sites requiring a log-in no longer work, so have to use other browser. A link from an email in windows Mail, say, only opens IE9 browser - the actual page does not load. You have to go back and click the link again. Don't like the favourites opening on the right hand side - they get hidden, as all components by others open there to avoid the old IE versions opening on the left. No sign that MS developers ever actually use their browsers or they would make them more user friendly and reduce constant clicking off of pointless warnings I do not need. Very tiresome. Overall a 5/10.
