And I'm not talking about the Monica Lewinsky kind (though that'd be nice too). I mean the kind that will do all my grunge work for me. I've been a professional developer for 5 years now. How many more before I can get somebody to do the boring work? I ask because I'm changing a lot of stuff on our CMS and it requires that I copy a bunch of data around manually. Extremely boring. So boring, in fact, that I've taken to drinking coffee and listening to music while I work just to keep myself awake and sane.

I'm 13ish years in and still don't have one, but we have a help desk here and those guys usually have down time. There's a couple of really good guys there looking for more interesting work than resetting email passwords, so they often help out with file moves/copy & paste initiatives/spreadsheet work when I ask. It's no intern, but it's pretty much paydirt for me ;)

Be careful what you wish for... I have one (after 20 years professional development) - but they are pretty high maintenance. Like puppies they have little common sense and are destructive when bored :-)

Is that a trick question in allusion to ASPDotNetDev's Monica Lewinsky remark?

Isn't this the point where you're supposed to download a GUI testing tool, and abuse it's scripting to automate the mouse twiddling for you? IF you do that you can instead restore your sanity by leaving work and drinking.

Unfortunately, that would probably take longer than the manual work. Though it would undoubtedly be more interesting than copy/pasting, so maybe I'll give it a try next time.

I might just have to do that. While I was in San Diego, I came across this liquor store with all kinds of interesting drinks. I bought about $60 worth.

Exactly. :) Only problem is I have trouble justifying it when it's one off and will take longer than the manual route.
