The "romance of Paris" comes as follows: Paris is an ugly, dirty, noisy, hectic, tourist-flooded town, with some old buildings as you can find all over europe. French people, especially those from Paris, have a personality quirk that is by outsiders usually understood as utterly arrogant. Yet, if you're really in love, you just don't notice. :cool: May you enjoy Paris.

I can highly recommend the Eurostar (especially if you go first class - my parents came back with glowing reviews of that experience) Though it's a shame you can't stay longer (If you can - look up a little restaurant called Brasserie Flo[^] - it's wonderful) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

unfortunately, it's bang in the middle of a fairly dodgy area of Paris, and isn't the kind of place you'd ever find unless you knew where it was already (our taxi driver had a hard time finding the place) -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Back in 1987 I was dating a girl at my University who was a linguist. As part of her course she spent 6 months of each year abroad...3 months in Germany and 3 months in Sweden. Anyhow, I arranged to go across to Stockholm in August, and we had a fantastic time for several days...until her other boyfriend showed up from Cairo. As you'd expect it was a huge and painful mess. I didn't realise how much of a state she was in, and I expect the signals I was putting out must have been confusing because of my condition, but in the end we loved each other deeply enough to put it behind us. A few days later we took a boat trip from Stockholm around Vaxholme (apologies to any Swedes if I've spelt it wrong!) which is basically a collection of islands just outside the city. It was a beatiful day and at the time it just felt like nothing else mattered but being together. Sadly, we split up 2 months later, after she'd come back to the UK (my fault - I was truly messed up) but we did stay friends. She's now happily married and living in Germany, but we chat by email occasionally. Remembering that day still makes me tearful. Anna :rose: www.annasplace.me.uk

It's actually not so bad anymore, not as bad as it was shortly after the kids were born. But it will never return to it's former glory. We've talked, but I don't think she will ever get it.
