Thanks for the alternative opinion on donating, it makes sense. To many cooks I suppose. From the second link : Unlike Louisiana (re Hurricane Katrina), Japan is a developed country with a good response system and an effective government. What the hell? =)

I'm not donating money that will never get to Japan anyway[^] :) Furthermore it seems you're donating salary rather than supporting funds.[^] And that's the kind of messages I hear about many funds... Money does not go where it should be and ends up in the pocket of some executive or even gets lost. A few years back the cancer foundation and heart foundation came in the news for exactly the same reason. I have lost all faith in foundations...

I gave to the Red Cross - it states that if they have more money than the named disaster can use they will pput it forward to the next best cause. This is because there have been some charities that ask for money for a specific cause then there is soem that woudl be wasted but due to abuse by some people it has to be used for the stated purpose. Pretty sensible.

Sad but true. They didn't handle BP rig explosion gracefully either.
